Welcome! SUNDAY WORSHIP SERVICE is at 9:00am and 10:30am
Rainier Avenue Church (RAC), located just south of Columbia City in the Rainier Valley, works to bring wholeness in Jesus Christ to people across racial, cultural, and socio-economic lines. RAC is an anchor church in the community through its collaborations with local organizations such as Urban Impact, Coalition for Community Development and Renewal (CCDR), and the Rainier Chamber of Commerce. RAC is a vital part of the Rainier Valley and the world because it serves as a gateway to link significant interaction among committed stewards who provide jobs, education and social services locally and abroad.
Sadly, our church van was totaled! Pastor Mark was rear ended on the way to the church retreat, and it turns out the frame is now bent beyond repair. Let us know if you have any leads on a new van in search of a good home!
From Pastor Peter's sermon this past Sunday: "Godly comfort is not the absence of trials - it is God's presence in the midst of trials. And it is not something that we simply receive, but that we are to pass on to others in turn. And the best way for us to pass godly comfort on to others is by coming alongside them, something that is described in the very word for comfort in the Greek (parakaleo, or to be called next to)." http://www.rainieravenuechurch.org/sermon_post/godly-comfort
Even as we mourn the passing of dear family in Christ, we also welcome new family at the same time - praise the Lord for the baptisms of Katie, Caleb, Joshua, Jack, Jane, Karuna, Joel and Daniel this past Sunday! Welcome to the family of God, dear brothers and sisters!
It is with a heavy heart that I share that early this morning, our dear sister Edith Root passed into glory. Her passing was peaceful, and she was surrounded by friends and family. I had the chance to visit yesterday and pray with Edith, and throughout our time, she whispered, "Jesus, I love you..." - faithful to the very end!
We will be announcing details for Edith's memorial service when they become available. In the meantime, please keep the Root family in your prayers as they mourn the loss of this beautiful soul. - P.Peter
An encouragement from "Be Thou My Vision", one of Edith's favorite hymns:
"High King of Heaven, my victory won
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heav’n’s Sun
Heart of my own heart, whate’er befall
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all"

From Pastor Peter's sermon from this past Sunday:
Both women and Gentiles were considered culturally inferior in the first century, a fact reflected in the social and religious life of Israel of that time. But God consciously subverts this cultural supremacy by allowing those two groups to be the first witnesses and proclaimers of two of Christianity's most central events: the Resurrection and the inclusion of the Gentiles into the Kingdom.
God actively disrupts cultural, ethnic and racial supremacy, and instead creates one family of which "there is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female." (Galatians 3:28). Any ideology that would place one group over another is opposed to work of God and is therefore demonic in nature, and that includes white supremacy.
The only supremacy that Christians believe in is the supremacy of Christ.
