Ballard museum will make you want to move to Norway

Home of the Scandinavian Language Institute. Can Ballard save America? That’s a lot to ask. Icelandic language at risk; robots, computers can't grasp it

Help us celebrate Nordic Culture

1) - This Thursday, February 16th is the second installment of Nordisk Film Klubb. We are showing this year's Oscar nominated Best Foreign Film, "En Mann Ved Navn Ove" (A Man Named Ove). There is a 12 noon sack lunch showing and a 6:30pm potluck dinner showing in the Nordic Museum auditorium. The movie is in Swedish with English subtitles and runs just under 2 hours. It will take the place of regularly scheduled classes this Thursday only. All are Velkommen! Bring a friend!

2) We have always held a Food Drive for the Ballard Food Bank simultaneously with Godt Hjerte. Together we can make a big difference in this community. Bring your donation of canned or packaged foods to class (or the movie on Thursday) and I will make sure it gets delivered to the food bank. We will keep this up through the rest of Winter Quarter so we have another few weeks to carry out the food drive.

3) As mentioned in a previous email, February is Godt Hjerte (Good Heart) Month at the Scandinavian Language Institute. We are collecting funds to help support our Scholarship Program as well as our twice quarterly Film Klubb events. You can bring your tax deductible contribution to class (check made out to S.L.I. - Godt Hjerte) or you can donate at our website: We are grateful for the hundreds of dollars that have already come in. Please note the Microsoft, Boeing, Macy's and Regence, to name a few, have all approved us for corporate matching funds - which helps a great deal. Tusen Takk for your Godt Hjerte and your generosity.

NEW CLASSES - next up is Spring Quarter starting the week of March 27th. The schedule will be on the website in another couple of weeks.
NEW FILM KLUBB - next up is "Kongens Nei" (The King's Choice) - Norway's submission to the Academy Awards this year - Thursday, April 6th. The same daytime and evening schedule applies.
