Aki families, please join us for Student-led Conferences on Thursday, April 27, 2017. Drop in 3:30-5:00 or 6:00-8:00 PM.
The purpose of the student-led conference is for students to share with their families what they are accomplishing in school. It also provides an opportunity to share educational goals and work that shows academic growth. You must bring your student, since this conference is led by the student, who will present what they have been learning, and why they have earned their grades in each class. This experience of speaking about themselves academically is important for students’ success. Family members can ask the student questions to better understand school standards and expectations. The teacher will be in the room to answer additional questions. (5:00-6:00 is the staff dinner break and 8th grade Fiesta– no conferences during that time)
Aki families, the district is Seeking Members for Ethnic Studies Task Force.
In response to interest expressed by Seattle Public Schools educators and the local community, including a January 2017 resolution by the NAACP, Seattle Public Schools is forming a task force to strengthen ethnic studies instruction and curriculum in grades 9-12.
Focusing on grades 9-12 is the first step in ensuring ethnic studies are part of the preK-12 learning experience for all students in the district. Help inform and shape this important work by applying to join the task force by April 21.
The ideal Ethnic Studies Task Force will represent the diverse perspectives and experiences of our educational community and bring valuable insight, a commitment to racial equity, and willingness to engage in inquiry and meaningful dialogue. The committee will be comprised of parents/guardians, community members, community partners, teachers, administrators, and staff.
