Seattle Culinary Academy

Seattle Culinary Academy through its all-star faculty provides dedicated students with a foundation of culinary, baking and pastry skills.

Since opening our doors over sixty years ago, the Seattle Culinary Academy has prepared over 5,000 students for successful culinary careers.

We believe that an innovative learning environment that integrates sustainability throughout the educational experience and fosters industry partnerships prepares our students for excellence and success.

Our talented and progressive faculty is committed to quality education enhanced by creativity and a full understanding of the needs of the food industry. Learning is experiential and provides students with the “hands on” practice they need to excel in their chosen program – Culinary Arts or Specialty Desserts & Breads.

The Seattle Culinary Academy resides at the intersection of some of the most important issues in our world today – health and the environment. Food is intrinsically linked to health and environmental wellness and chefs play a critical role in defining our relationship to food. Our program is shaped by the understanding that our students are preparing to play an important role in many aspects of our lives.

Programs are fully accredited by the American Culinary Federation.

This past spring our esteemed baking instructor, Chef Don Reed, retired. He educated thousands of students in the department and pioneered the academy's signature efforts on artisan bread production and slow ferments. His departure leaves a big hole but also creates a tremendous opportunity for new leadership. Please help us get the word out as we look for our own next "Star Baker"! http://culinary.seattlecentral.edu/news/chef-don-reed-our-esteemed-bread-baker-begins-new-chapter

It was one of those great days at Seattle Culinary Academy. Pictured here, the summer pastry and bread students visiting Northwest Mills. A hundred years ago there were 25000 mills like this grinding locally harvested wheat. Today there are fewer than 200 and three of them grind 80% of all commercial flour, with a fraction of the nutritional and flavor profile.

Northwest Mills aims to change that. Locally milled, minimally-processed grain that is grown for flavor and nutrition. Now that is IMPACT we can get behind!
