We have two locations:
Lower Bar Ferdinand, Melrose Market: wine bar & bottle shop
Upper Bar Ferdinand: Chophouse Row: wine bar, restaurant & shop
Located in Melrose Market, Lower Bar Ferdinand is our original location. We are a wine bar and bottle shop.
We serve glasses & bottles of wine from family owned, small production bodegas from all over the wine-producing world. It might be a biodynamic supernatural white wine from a madman in Slovenia, or the product of the sweetest couple in the state of Washington. We want to pair wine for your meals or any occasion.
Upper Bar Ferdinand is our new project in Capitol Hill's Chophouse Row. Like the original Bar Ferdinand, our focus here is still very much on our wines, sourced with care from family owned, small production bodegas from all over the wine (and sake, and beer) producing world.
Here, we pair our beverage offerings with a food menu of simply prepared dry aged and cured meats, cooked in our open fireplace, and local seafood, served raw, cured or smoked in our passive heat masonry smoker. We have a small bread and pizza program, as well as a selection of vegetables, prepared pickled or roasted. Our beverage and food offerings rotate daily, and a sample menu can be seen here.
Lower Bar Ferd’nand will be closing its gates for good, the weekend of April 22nd and 23rd. We will be rolling our inventory to Upper Bar Ferdinand, where we will continue to do the good work. Those of you enrolled in Bottle Society, will pick up your boxes at Upper Bar Ferdinand, starting with the May edition. Any back ordered boxes will be moved to Upper Bar Ferdinand but please, if you have not picked up, do so by our closing weekend.
On Sunday, the 23rd, we will be open for business as usual, and will be hosting a gathering, a wakeful party, if you will! We hope you will come and lift a glass with us one last time at our space in Melrose Market!
Bar Ferd’nand has been in Melrose Market since it opened almost seven years ago (July 13th, 2010). Some of you may know it; some of you have never been here. If you do know us, you know that Bar Ferd’nand has never been simply about wine; Bar Ferd’nand has been a reflection in the eyes of the lovely people who have worked here; you know that we are a reflection of you, who have patronized us over these past seasons; you know that Bar Ferd’nand has been an extension of a soul.
Matt and I envisioned Bar Ferd’nand as a chill spot where one might sidle up for a glass and a small plate; maybe a simple cocktail; and if one felt so inclined, pick up a bottle to take home. During these past seven years that vision has ebbed and flowed, its various iterations leaving bits of shell and other detritus washed upon the littoral; purified & clean and then, not so clean, but always polishing; rolling the irritant grain, the product of which has been opalescent and lovely. This has been our hope.
Starting this Wednesday night from 4pm - 8pm join our friends at the Night Market at Chophouse Row!
