Lakewold Gardens Visting

There's so much to explore in and around Seattle—why not take a day trip to the beautiful Lakewold Gardens? Give yourself some new scenery for your long weekend walk. Heck, maybe even do some walking lunges. Just kidding! (or am I?) Planning Your Garden Experience

Ascent Protein

Many of our members are using this protein to recover from workouts, retain lean muscle, and stay strong. Ask Dillon for a sample!

One scoop of Ascent Protein will help you recover and refuel after any kind of workout.

Do you remember when you started our classes and why?
I wanted to make fitness a priority but I didn't know how. Dillon took the time to understand my goals and build a customized plan. She was honest about the effort required (no gimmicks) and long-term benefits of a healthy lifestyle.

What are some health and fitness goals you have achieved since being here?
Through some starts-and-stops at TFL, I have been able to see how my professional life is more successful and productive when I'm making time to take care of my personal health and fitness.

23 Ways to De-Stress in 5 Minutes or Less

Relaxation Tips

Here are a number of ways you can de-stress throughout your week: drink a cup of hot tea, play solitaire, chew gum, or pet a cat. Yes, even the stroking motion of petting a cat (or another pet), can trigger a release of oxytocin, a hormone that helps reduce cortisol levels and helps make you feel happy.

Let us know which ones you try! Here are almost two dozen proven ways to chill out in no time at all, whether you’re at home, at work, or on the move.

Seattle Green Lake Running Group

Un-Caesar Salad Wrap with Eggplant Bacon

Meatless Monday
Did someone say eggplant bacon? I did. And you've got to try it. Make these un-caesar wraps for quick grab-and-go lunches or for lazy dinners. Skip the preservatives and sugar often added to traditional Caesar dressings - here we make a high-fiber, real-food Caesar-style dressing and use it in these satisfying wraps for grab-and-go lunches or lazy dinners.

Wallace Falls State Park — Washington Trails Association

Calling all adventurers!

Will it rain this weekend? Maybe—but that doesn't matter because Wallace Falls is amazing, rain or shine. Grab your Discover Pass and a leash for your dog and get out of town. This hike compels you to pay attention to your immediate surroundings—the forest, the ferns, the moss-covered branches, and its namesake, Wallace Falls. Hike the entire loop or hike to the lower falls and back to shorten your trek.

The trailhead is about one hour fifteen minutes from Seattle and the hike is worth every step. An accessible hike for seasoned veterans and neophytes alike, Wallace Falls provides visitors with breathtaking views of the Wallace River and the surrounding falls on a relatively low difficulty, scenic 5.6 mile round-trip. Although well attended and often busy, the trail stands as a true showcase…

A big thank you to everyone who joined us Friday night for pizza. Thank you Frelard Pizza Co. for hosting our shindig. Looking forward to our next outing 😀

Take a Deep Breath

Relaxation Tip
Take a deep breath. This is a technique you are likely familiar with already. Breathing deeply for long periods of time increases your flow of oxygen and triggers a relaxation response in your body. According to Dr. Herbert Benson, "The relaxation response is a physical state of deep rest that changes the physical and emotional responses to stress."

There are many benefits to achieving a state of relaxation through breathing, including decreasing your heart rate, blood pressure, and muscle tension.

My favorite is Teddy Bear Breathing. Try it out! Take a Deep Breath For many of us, relaxation means zoning out in front of the TV at the end of a stressful day. But this does little to reduce the damaging effects of stress. To effectively combat…
