Crystal Lakes — Washington Trails Association

wta.org

Adventure is Calling
And it wants you to go to Mt. Rainier. There are so many trails at Rainier and this one is pretty close to Seattle, in the northeastern part of the park.

It's just 6 miles roundtrip with a respectable 2600 foot gain. Read the WTA site for explicit directions for the trail to Crystal Lake itself.🚶

Enjoy those views!

wta.org Take a short but steep hike on a wide trail to visit two lakes in a beautiful craggy setting. It's only three miles to the upper lake, with 2,600 feet of elevation gain. In season find many wildflowers in the basin near the upper lake, and be alert for wildlife sightings.

Simple Dietary Shifts to Lower Inflammation | The Fitness Lab

thefitnesslab.biz

Does your body suffer from inflammation? Coach Megan has a new article discussing ways to reduce inflammation through diet. Eating foods that are better for you or staying away from foods that ignite inflammation can be extremely beneficial to your health.

thefitnesslab.biz By making simple changes to the way we eat, we can greatly reduce the inflammatory state that our bodies are in and move more toward a life of vitality. Inflammation is our body’s natural physiological response to trauma and is classified as either acute or chronic: ACUTE inflammation may last from…

Relaxation Tip
Turn off your phone for a couple hours a day. You might already do this. You might be panicking that I even suggested it. But many of us reach for our phones when we don't even need them. We can get stuck using them to pass the time instead of choosing how to spend our time.

Try turning off your phone (or leaving it plugged in in anther room in your house). Choose to do something else: go for a walk, read a book, cook a meal, sit outside, tidy up your home, take a bath. Stop checking your email and your Facebook notifications and get an hour or two back in your day!

ROCKSTAR OF THE MONTH: RACHEL GARCIA JAMES

What are 3 or 4 of your favorite things to do?
In the Seattle summers, I’m usually out on my SUP or walking to around the city with my husband en route to a good meal or a movie. In the winters, I’m trying out some snow activities like snow shoeing and tubing. I travel a lot for work and for fun and love spending time with friends and family all over and exploring cities or relaxing on a beach.

Where is your favorite place to eat
I don’t have a strong favorite, but the meal that is on my mind the most right now is from Carnivore in Ballard. Super delicious meal that I have not stopped thinking about since we went a few weeks ago!

What are some health and fitness goals you have achieved since being here?
Last fall, I was struggling with the motivation to exercise regularly. I have lots of injuries and chronic pain and one of the only things that keeps me in a good place is exercise. I saw a special that was running for a few weeks with unlimited classes. I needed motivation and love a good deal! The classes were interesting, fun, and challenging. The coaches encourage me to try heavier weights or more difficult exercises and I noticed huge differences in my strength, energy, coordination, and confidence.

Do you remember when you started our classes and why?
I’ve gotten stronger, dropped in clothing size, seen huge improvements in my stamina and conditioning, and gained lots of confidence in what I can do physically. But, I think the most important thing I’ve learned is that I need to set this time aside for myself. It keeps my pain at lower amounts and keeps my brain fresh and ready for other challenges in life. It’s not easy to take the time for myself everyday. But, my time at TFL has been a life lesson that this is important. I find myself trying classes in other cities when I travel- something I never would have done a year ago!

What is a quote that you live by?
Work like you don't need the money.
Love like you've never been hurt and
Dance Like no one's watching.
