Northwest Washington Synod, ELCA

Geographically the Northwest Washington Synod includes the area from Kent/Des Moines to the Canadian border, Puget Sound to the Cascades.

There are 109 congregations in the synod and around 45,000 baptized members. In addition to congregations the synod has 13 new mission starts located in Bellevue, Bothell, Burlington, Edmonds, Everett, Sammamish, and Seattle; three second site congregations located in Mukilteo, Renton and Seattle; and two campus ministries located in Bellingham and Seattle.

Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. The United Nations General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.The theme for 2017 is “Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All.”
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres stated, “We must resist cynical efforts to divide communities and portray neighbors as ‘the other’. Discrimination diminishes us all. It prevents people — and societies — from achieving their full potential. Together, let us stand up against bigotry and for human rights. Together, let us build bridges. Together, let us transform fear into hope.

"For Such A Time As This" Pray. Fast. Act.

On the 21st - Pray, fast and act together
Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton and Michael Curry, presiding bishop of The Episcopal Church, issued a joint statement in May inviting people to a time of prayer, fasting and advocacy. Their call was based on concern about proposals in Congress to cut federal programs that are essential to hungry people in poverty. On the 21st of every month, Eaton and ELCA Advocacy invite Lutherans to pray and fast. The 21st of the month was chosen because it’s the monthly date when 90 percent of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits run out for families. Loving this gesture of welcome, belonging, and care. In the spirit of Jesus washing the feet of his disciples after the last supper, these Clergy washed the feet of DACA recipients. It's in this spirit and out of faith that we are ALL called to serve, giving our hearts and hands to the newcomer.
