[08/14/17]   For those who have been asking for a copy of the liturgy against white supremacy from yesterday's service, here it is (The original version came from another Covenant pastor and from the Missio Alliance blog as a way for churches to lament and pray together):

God we remember this morning that to clasp the hands in prayer is the beginning of an uprising against the disorder and violence of the world. We hold in our hearts the events happening in Charlottesville, VA. We hold in our hearts the events happening today in Seattle…both which deny the value of black and brown bodies. Lord Jesus, your Kingdom is good news for a world caught in racial hostility. We ask that you would give us grace for the deep challenges facing our country.
OH LORD, ONLY YOU CAN MAKE ALL THINGS NEW.
We confess our anger, our deep sadness, and our collective sense of weakness to see this world healed through our own strength.
OH LORD, ONLY YOU CAN MAKE ALL THINGS NEW.
God, we honestly confess that our country has a long history of racial oppression, that racism has been a strategy of evil powers and principalities.
OH LORD, ONLY YOU CAN MAKE ALL THINGS NEW.
God, we confess that the gospel is good news for the oppressed and the oppressor. Both are raised up. Both are liberated, but in different ways. The oppressed are raised up from the harsh burden of inferiority. The oppressor from the destructive illusion of superiority. May we all be liberated.
OH LORD, ONLY YOU CAN MAKE ALL THINGS NEW.
God, we confess that the gospel is your power to form a new people not identified by dominance and superiority, but by unity in the Spirit.
OH LORD, ONLY YOU CAN MAKE ALL THINGS NEW.
God, we ask that you would help us name our part in this country’s story of racial oppression and hostility. Whether we have sinned against others by seeing them as inferior, or whether we have been silent in the face of evil. We denounce white supremacy on our streets and in our own hearts. Forgive us of our sin.
OH LORD, ONLY YOU CAN MAKE ALL THINGS NEW.
God, we ask that you would form us to be us peacemakers. May we be people who speak the truth in love as we work for a reconciled world.
OH LORD, ONLY YOU CAN MAKE ALL THINGS NEW.
God we commit our lives to you, believing that you are working in the world in spite of destructive powers. Bring healing to those who are hurt, peace to those who are anxious, and love to those who are fearful. We wait for you, O Lord. Make haste to help us.
OH LORD, ONLY YOU CAN MAKE ALL THINGS NEW.
And we pray for true peace...the thriving of all. We pray that all that happens today in Seattle be peaceful and that our black and brown and Muslim and gay brothers and sisters would be supported and cared for at every turn though they face hate today and many other days. We pray that the faith leaders leading today’s counter protest would create a safe space of peace. Be present with them oh God. We need you.
OH LORD, ONLY YOU CAN MAKE ALL THINGS NEW.

RESPONSE REQUESTED: STORIES FOR CHURCH WALLS
Are you a member/regular attender of Seattle First Covenant Church? Are you involved in the ministries of our community? First Covenant will be hanging new art based around the portraits/interviews by the popular organization, "Humans of New York" (check them out here: http://www.humansofnewyork.com).
As a church, we want to share our stories and let people who enter our doors know a bit about ministries through the areas of Proclaim Christ, Nurture Faith and Serve Others. We want our walls to reflect the community. To do this, we will be taking portraits of people in our congregation and hanging those portraits around the church along with a quote from each person which might tell a bit about who they are, a story of a time they connected with God, why they serve in these ministries at First Covenant or why they have made First Covenant their church family, etc. If you're interested, please contact Ellie through email (evergowe@firstcovenantseattle.org), Facebook message, phone call, text or by commenting here! :)
We need LOTS of people! Join us in this fun new way of telling stories of hope!

TONIGHT we will meet in the Summit Building (which has AC!) at 6:30pm. Bring your dinner, games, instruments, art and a friend who doesn't have AC at home! We will be singing gospel tonight together. All are welcome.

Thanks to George Scranton for leading us this last Sunday! "Because without such diversity [of gifts, race, gender, ability, age, sexuality, ideology and story, etc. in the body of Christ], we would not reflect the world Christ came to and died for." We need each other and we are one.

What do the Summit roof, games, art, bbq, great weather, folk music and lemonade have in common? Answer: your evening!
We meet TONIGHT for the second ever Summer Summit Shindig at 6:30pm on the roof of 420 E Pike. Bring your dinner (there's space on the bbq!)
