For 13 years, Pies & Pints has been a second home to its staff. We’ve seen communities of musicians, artists and friends grow and then grow apart. And in their place, we’ve seen new communities come together. We’ve experienced great loss, and bonded through far too many tragedies. We’ve taken care of each other, and hopefully at some point, we’ve taken good care of you too.
So, it is with both great appreciation, and great sadness, that I’m writing today to announce that Pies & Pints has been sold and will be closing our doors later this month. Our last day will be Saturday, April 15th. This may come as a shock to many of you, and some of you are surely wondering, why?
Truthfully, it’s not as simple as one thing. We’re doing alright, and continue to see great crowds and new faces regularly. It really had just come time for many of us, including our wonderful owners, to move on to new things.
I feel like I can speak for our staff when I say that it’s been a great privilege to serve you all, and we truly appreciate everything you, our customers, have done to make Pies such a special place. It’s always been more than just a restaurant. And I am forever grateful for that.
We hope you’ll join us for the next couple of weeks as we celebrate our neighborhood, our customers and our staff. Change is always hard, but we’re excited to go out with a bang and have a really fun couple of weeks.
We’ll be making daily posts between now and then to countdown our time together. Please do come say hi to your favorite server or bartender, thank the cooks and bussers, and please… enjoy a pie and a pint.
With love and gratitude,
Pies & Pints
Dear friends of Café Racer,
It is with a heavy and conflicted heart that I announce I am putting my beloved Café Racer up for sale. Increasing concerns with family, responsibilities in my full-time “second” job and the desire to do other things contributed to this decision. I love this amazing and iconic place and want to see it keep living and thriving but I can no longer devote the time and attention the café requires.
I cannot believe how lucky I have been being exposed to so many great artists and talented musicians. It’s been the high point in my life, something that most people can only dream of. I have been enriched beyond my dreams and I would be lying if didn’t admit that I have taken great pleasure in providing the space for it to happen.
Café Racer has been a home for hundreds of musicians to perform and work, including musicians such as La Luz, Hounds of the Wild Hunt, Circus Contraption, Country Lips, Gods Favorite Beefcake, Ravenna Woods, Lonesome Shack as well as the long standing Racer Sessions.
The Café has also been a meeting place for so many others; writers, visual artists, motorcycle and scooter clubs, drawers and gamers. So many groups have met here including the Vespa Club of Seattle, Friends of the Nib, Dune -a monthly group of cartoonist, Two Hour Transport -a Science Fiction writers group, The Euchre Club, many visual artists and of course it’s the home of The OBAMA Room; The Official Bad Art Museum of Art. I even heard someone wrote a novel in the place.
I never really knew what Café Racer meant to people until after the tragic shooting. The outpouring of love and support from the community was amazing and the fact that we, as a community were able to come back from it shows that there is a need for places like Café Racer in the world.
My dream is that someone would like to keep the café going in the same manner as it has been for the last twelve years. The community deserves it.
