The objectives of the PTA include:
• To promote the welfare of children and youth in the home, school, and community.
• To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of youth and children.
• To bring into closer relation the home and the school, so that parents and teachers may collaborate in training the child.
• To develop between educators and the general public such efforts as will secure for every child the highest advantage in physical, mental, and social education.
• The overall goal of McGilvra Parents and PTA is to support the teachers of our children and to achieve the best education possible for all children.
• General PTA meetings are held on the last Wednesday of every other month at 6:30 in the library; see the School Calendar page for exact dates.

Please join us on May 11, 7-9 pm for Under Our Skin Part 2, the next event on race and social justice from the Mount Baker Community Club. Attendees from our two previous events wanted to further explore the ideas expressed and we want to be responsive to you.
This will be an opportunity for in-depth discussion reflecting on videos on Institutional Racism, Colorblindness and more. Discussion facilitated by Aisha Hauer, Director of Religious Education at the East Shore Unitarian Church in Bellevue, and Andy Reynolds, previous president of MBCC and cross cultural/communication consultant and trainer.
This event will be free. Donations are welcome.
Save the date for the final Spec Ed PTSA meeting of the 2016-17 school year! This meeting is open to all parents, teachers, allies and community members.
Tuesday, May 16 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the JSCEE - the meeting will feature guest speaker Cathy Murahashi, the Family Engagement Coordinator King County Parent and Family Coalition, from the Arc of King County, talking about parent
advocacy. There will be Spec Ed Directors there to answer questions and address concerns, the SEAAC report and elections for the PTSA Board for next year. Also Wyeth Jessee, Chief of Student Supports, will be presenting briefly on the strategic plan for the District moving forward.
