Bar Melusine

Our love letter to the French Atlantic, Bar Melusine's hustle bustle provides the perfect backdrop for the maritime flavors of Normandy and Brittany.

Our travels to Normandy and Brittany over the years have always left us inspired (and very full). Our thoughts and conversations following these visits routinely center around how we might bring home our favorite bits of the French Atlantic coast.

With these thoughts in mind, Sea Creatures welcomed Bar Melusine to the family in fall 2015. Named for the mythical French water spirit, Bar Melusine is Walrus's playful French Atlantic cousin. Melusine's casual, bustling atmosphere, bathed in a sea of greens, provides the perfect back drop for the maritime flavors of Normandy and Brittany.

"Re-imagining the flavors of Normandy and Brittany, using ingredients from our corner of the world is so fun! We are thrilled to be serving lamb, meat and vegetables from our very own La Ferme des Anes..."

- Chef-Owner Renee Erickson

Both raw and cooked seafood, meats, and vegetables accompany a focused and carefully curated wine list, focused on French whites by the glass. Think raw oysters, savory buckwheat crêpes, moules-frites, pré-salé lamb, steak tartare, pork rillons, and gésiers confits. Thoughtful vermouth- and brandy-centered cocktails fill out the experience.

Author Dinner at Bar Melusine—Six Seasons by Joshua McFadden :: Book Larder

In collaboration with Book Larder: A Community Cookbook Store, Bar Melusine welcomes chef Joshua McFadden of Portland's wildly popular Ava Gene's, to celebrate his first cookbook, Six Seasons: A New Way With Vegetables.

After years racking up culinary cred at New York City restaurants like Lupa, Momofuku, and Blue Hill, McFadden managed the trailblazing Four Season Farm in coastal Maine, where he developed an appreciation for every part of the plant and learned to coax the best from vegetables at each stage of their lives. He now shares his perspective of farmer and chef with his brand new book.

On Tuesday, May 9th, our Chef Bobby Palmquist and the team at Bar Melusine will craft a three-course menu inspired by Six Seasons. Enjoy a fabulous meal, meet one of the country's brightest young chefs, and take home a signed copy of Six Seasons.
