[09/18/17]   Such a fun day on the water rowing for the Cure! Thanks to all the organizers for a fun morning, and thanks to all the rowers for coming out and racing hard all day!
Great start to head racing season for LUC 💪🏻💗

Another Learn to Row class graduated this morning! They rowed by all 8 for half of practice and even pulled a power 30 (!!!) at the end! Looking forward to the progress they make in SAS! 💪🏻

Time for a #FridayFeature right before Row for the Cure on Sunday! Today's spotlight is shining on coach (and rower) Judy!
1. What program to you row/coach/cox for?
Row: Nat comp women
Coach: AM local women & PM SAS

2. When did you start rowing?
Technically, October 2001. I rowed one year as an undergrad at SPU.

3. When did you start rowing at LUC?
November 2011. I took LTR because I was convinced I'd forgotten everything. But coming back to rowing was like riding a bike; my body just knew what to do.

4. What's your favorite boat to row in?
I love eights because they are *so fast*! A close second is the pair. I've had some really good pair partners.

5. What's your best/favorite rowing memory?
Gosh, there are so many!
- The novice women's 8+ at 2013 Regionals that came together at the last minute.
- The women's B 8+ winning this year at SDCC and then at Opening Day a few weeks later.
- That magical row in a random practice 8+ one July (maybe 2015?): perfect swing at 18 spm out through the Cut and back. (Yes, I still think about it sometimes.)
- Any time I get to give SAS folks their first rowing medal at Greenlake regattas.

SAS and Learn to Row combined for an epic erg relay to finish off an indoor workout. Everyone crushed it, especially the LTR's, who've only been rowing for 2 weeks!
Hoping for clearer weather so we can head back out on the water soon!

When you remember that you don't have to work tomorrow so you can spend more time rowing 😁
Happy Labor Day weekend everyone!!

Today's #FridayFeature is all about passionate SAS tower Philip White! It's been love since first stroke and we're lucky to have his enthusiasm in the boathouse! Hear from Philip in his own words:

LUC: What program do you row for?
Philip: I row for SAS (have you heard the word? SAS kicks ASS!), both AM and PM, and cox for Learn To Row.

LUC: When did you start rowing?
Philip: Having no rowing experience whatsoever, I found myself on LUC's web site in March of this year and eagerly enrolled for the April Learn To Row. It's been love at first stroke. Since LTR, I joined AM SAS, then started attending PM also.

LUC: What is your favorite boat to row in?
Philip: The Aeon, an open-water single scull. What a beauty! Beyond its fetching colors, lines, and awesome self-bailer, it's special because it's my first-ever single. When it came time for me to try a single, Aeon and I eyed each other with distrust. I knew how flippy its kind is, and Aeon surely had disdain for someone with only four months of rowing experience. I settled into it with trepidation, fully expecting to end my first session cold and wet. An hour later, I pulled into the dock, exhilarated and still dry. The love must be mutual.

LUC: Favorite rowing memory?
Philip: The Greenlake Regatta in August. Spending all day, from 7 am, with the coaches and crew was a fun and bonding experience: rigging and derigging boats, working together quickly to swap boats between races, warming up and calming our anxiety before the race, and winning a bronze medal in our mixed 8! Afterward, we had a SAS party at the boathouse with pizza and drinks, finally saying our goodbyes late into the night. What a day!

We're long overdue for a #FridayFeature! Today we're featuring SAS rower Astrid Suchy-Dicey, who competed in her first Greenlake regatta earlier this month!

1. What program to you row for?
I row for SAS. Ready? One-two-three: SAS KICKS ASS!

2. When did you start rowing?
I started rowing at LUC about three months ago. So, I’m like a newborn babe in the woods...or on the water. But I’ve already started trying to recruit all my friends!

3. What's your favorite boat to row in?
I actually don’t think I know enough to pick. I like sweep, I like scull. I don’t even have a sweep side I like better yet. I’m a blank slate! I haven’t been sent swimming in the cold months yet, though, so maybe I will have more opinions about that after the sun disappears for the winter.

4. What's your best rowing memory?
My SAS group had our first race (at Greenlake) on August 5th, which was a fun bonding experience! We all shared baked goods, endlessly rigged and de-rigged the boats, panicked a little on the water, won some hardware, and then had a party. It was a good day!

AM/PM SAS Mixed Novice 8+ ran through the R4TC course tonight - all 5800 meters of it! We are so proud of them!
