What I’ve chosen to do with my life is to create beauty and to leave spaces more beautiful than I found them. Let’s all commit to making our world a more beautiful place for *eveyone* in it not just a select few who were lucky enough to be born with a particular skin color. We have the power to create change! It’s up to each and every one of us to be better, to do better, and to ask (demand) that our fellow citizens and public servants be better and do better. We all do better when we all do better!

Choose your small city apartment...A or B? If you look closely at these images, they both have all of the same elements.. a dining table, a sofa, and a bed. I know it's really going to be a push for some of my traditionalists out there, but see if you can stretch yourself to come up with which one you might choose, and why! Tell me in the comments below.

Had to prune back a honeysuckle Bush that was overtaking a pathway in my garden, rather than tossing the branches, I grabbed one of my ginger jars and started sticking them in...clipped a couple of blossoming pear branches to go along with them, and voila! Simple and easy arrangement for the piano.

Back to the bathrooms... These two have some similar elements, and some quite different ones. I know that many of you want your counter space, and your storage space... I love how practical you are, and I always agree that form absolutely must follow function, but let's talk more mood here... give me your visceral response. Tell me which is your favorite, and then tell me what you think about the dark moody walls on the left, and the cheeky tile "rugs' on the right... So go for it: A or B? And why!

I feel like I don't even need to introduce these posts anymore... You all know the drill! A or B? Tell me everything you want me to know about these two rooms, which one appeals to you, and why?

These bedrooms: Notice how similar the wall color is, and yet the rooms themselves are quite different. Which one would you prefer? A or B?

You all are the best! Thanks so much for playing along with me to make Facebook a bit more beautiful and to add some levity during these trying times! It's so much fun for me, and I hope it's a lot of fun for you, too! xx/m

Tell me about these bathrooms: Which do you prefer? A or B? I always love hearing why, too!

Project Spotlight:

She's a vivacious strawberry blonde who looks great in teals, golds, and rusts. She lived for a time in the south and likes things to be refined and intentional. He's a mountain climber who ascends "Fourteeners" on a whim, and has summited some of the highest peaks in the world. He likes things to be simple, unfussy, and masculine. Together, they live with their adorable dog in this house that has incredible views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Here we created a space that is refined, but not fussy; elegant, but still simple; a place where they can listen to the music they love, plan their next adventure, and enjoy life.

Here's what they had to say:

“Our home has been transformed with Melinda’s creative eye for space, balance and comfort. She has a vast repertoire of resources she brought to bear for our project, and was amazingly flexible as our minds changed and timelines morphed. One thing that was especially impressive at the beginning of the engagement was how she used our existing possessions to their full potential, then filled in around them. The end result is amazing, and we take delight in seeing the visual beauty of color, form and function she created in our home.”

Home Library Edition: Which do you prefer A or B? Tell me in the comments!

Freestanding Tubs! Tell me which bathroom you prefer? A or B?

Moving into the bedroom... What is your preference? Are you a traditional maximalist or a simple modernist? Tell me: A or B?

Let's move into the dining room... Tell me which is your favorite! I love that they both have a beautiful chandelier, and great windows, but they are so different in mood! What's your favorite...A or B?

Let's resurrect our favorite game... Which one is your favorite? A or B? Tell me why!!

So....how is everyone’s self-isolation going? Now that we have all the necessities covered...let’s talk about the luxuries!! Yesterday, we talked about fresh flowers • Today, it’s candlelight. I just love candlelight to make a space feel welcoming and inviting. I always love the scented candles from @nestfragrances. I tend to change with the seasons. This spring, my favourite is Amalfi Lemon & Mint. What scented candles are you loving right now??

As we face the unprecedented and uncertain days ahead, I have to remind myself of the little things that make me feel better when life feels crazy and chaotic. For me, having an orderly and inviting home is something that calms me right down. One of the primary ways I do this is with fresh flowers. On your next trip to the grocery to stock up for this period of “social distancing”, ask yourself if perhaps you have enough toilet paper stocked and whether your mental health might be better served with some fresh flowers for your home instead. Throughout this week, I’ll be sharing few ways you can bring a sense of peace to your home in these uncertain times. The full article will be available later this week... go to the “subscribe”page to receive it and other fun posts on the regular.

I feel like “telling the story” is a big part of what I do as a designer. When it’s all said and done, so much of our lives is about the memories we create, and the great stories we tell, and interior design provides a backdrop for the stories of our lives! As we all know, a lot of great stories happen in the kitchen! When starting a kitchen design (or any design), it’s important to know that we’re all on the “same page”! Part of the conceptual design process is creating a board like this one to tell the story of that space. What’s the mood? What’s the feeling we’re creating, and what are the components that will create that feeling?

Inspired By... The Baccarat Hotel NYC - Melinda Browning

Hotels continue to be an incredible source of design inspiration for me! Whenever I spend time in a great hotel, I'm always looking for ideas I can bring back to my home and the homes of my clients. Recently, I spent some time at The Baccarat Hotel in New York. In this post of "The Edit", I have created two schematic designs for the "Baccarat Look" at two different budgets.

melindabrowning.com Luxury hotels continue to be a great source of design inspiration for me. Every time I stay in a great hotel, I'm always making mental notes about how I can bring that feeling of comfortable luxury back to my own home or the homes of my clients.
