Small studio artisanal clothing and accessories Santa Fe Weaving Gallery was founded in 1976 as an important contributor to the fiber arts movement by showcasing beautiful textiles as garments.
Today, the Gallery continues to seek out and represent these artists and designers as they explore new frontiers in textiles. Paper is formed into jewelry, Tyvek is fashioned into raincoats, wool is felted with metallic threads. Wovens are designed on the hand-loom and finished on a computer-driven loom. Cloth is buried deep into earth or bound to rebar to adopt earthen tones. Metal is woven into jewelry. As each generation explores and pushes the boundaries of the arts, so do our designers work to create cloth that is artisanal, innovative, exciting and new.

Santa Fe Weaving Gallery artist Muffy Young has been a weaver and dyer since 1978. Her loom, which has 24 harnesses instead of the more traditional 4 or 8, allows her to form complex patterning in her stunning handwoven scarves and shawls. Guided by the weave structure, Muffy sources silk fibers from India, Japan, and China to heighten visual impact and to balance drape and stability. Hand-dying her yarns gives her full control of her color palette.

What better way to kick off the new year than with one of our beautiful silk scarves by Judith Bird?
We also love this incredible artist's words on her connection with nature and observation of change while creating her designs, fitting for the fresh start that comes with the month of January:
"I am definitely inspired by the shapes and colors and textures of my surroundings. At the moment, long walks on my nearby beaches yield kelp and beachwood, while construction is booming all around my modest home. Discarded wooden plumbing drills, especially the ones made in error seem to attract my attention. Even scraps from trees I could barely face to have removed. I once printed with a crosscut from a Douglas fir, but it was just too, too heavy. The tree had been so meaningful and protective, and perhaps symbolic of the gentrifying losses I was experiencing. All these objects, in combination, have become printing tools on my fabrics. Years ago I had many many yards of fabric woven for me by hand. I had worked for years to refine its balance of silk and viscose rayon, settling on an 80/20 mix. Then I turned around and concentrated on other projects. And now, since I have been printing this amazing cache of fabric, I have enough for just a few years of creating! My goal is to use up this stash."

Wishing you a happy holiday, and new year full of promise!
As 2020 draws to a close, we want to thank each and every one of you – our loyal customers, our talented artists, and our dedicated staff – for making it possible for Santa Fe Weaving Gallery to not only survive, but thrive, during this unprecedented year. We could not have done it without you!
While much has changed in the past year, two things have stayed the same: our mutual love and appreciation of art-to-wear clothing and accessories, and our deep respect for the amazing talent of our artists. In the face of adversity, your ongoing support and encouragement inspired us to try new ways to showcase our artists’ creations and grow our offerings online and through social media, including our new virtual studio tours/trunk shows. As we move into the new year, we are optimistic that 2021 will restore the health and vitality of our nation and world, and once again allow us to visit with you in person at the Gallery when many of you are able to return to Santa Fe.
Again, thank you for your continued support of the Santa Fe Weaving Gallery and our talented artists. Together we are a wonderful community for which we feel immensely blessed.

After a long career in fused glass design, Diane moved into textile art with her unique collection of fused fiber collage textiles. Each piece is created as a complete work, from tracing the pattern onto the base fiber to fashioning the fabric into a unique piece of wearable art. Her collection of jackets, vests, tunics, and scarves is a perennial favorite for the colorful texture they offer.
A graduate of Moore College of Art and Design, Diane has won many awards for her fiber web creations. She lives in New Port Richey, Florida.

Beautiful B. Felt shawls in our winter collection!
From her background as a painter, artist Barbara Poole brings a sense of color and style all her own. She works almost completely in the laminate technique of felting, using luscious silks as the base. This gives even her winter weight work a lightness that would not be possible with only felt. Barbara does all her own dye work incorporating traditional Japanese Shibori techniques.

This Thanksgiving, we are grateful for creativity—creativity in all of our makers showcased at the gallery, and creativity shining through in our customers who bring such beauty to wearing these incredible works of art. Thank YOU.
Pictured here: Work by Santa Fe Weaving Gallery artist Tatiana Palnitska, who creates "edition 1 of 1" pieces that are never repeated. Each piece is created by hand, with emphasis on texture, lines, fluidity, and overall expression. Growing up in the Soviet Union, she involved herself in the family heritage of language and music. Eventually, she moved to visual arts in photography. Her works are in private and public collections, including The National Museum of Women in the Arts. In rediscovering fiber arts, Tatiana continues to explore the limitless growth, experimentation, and expansion that it offers. Her collection is sumptuous to the look and touch! Tatiana lives in Florida.
