Aim High

Aim High

Aim High expands opportunities for low-income middle school youth in Northern California through a tuition-free, multi-year summer program. More than 2,300 students from San Francisco, Oakland, Napa, Marin, Tahoe, and the Peninsula join us annually.

Aim High provides tuition-free summer programs for middle school students in San Francisco, Oakland, Redwood City, East Palo Alto, Marin City, San Rafael and Tahoe/Truckee, CA. At Aim High, students take morning classes in Math, Science, Humanities and Issues & Choices, and fun afternoon classes in theater, dance, sports, the great outdoors, and more. 9th grade students at Aim High spend a week at Aim High's Environmental Home in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area or take part in outdoor education trips in the East and South Bay.

San Francisco Peer Resources

We're so excited to share some awesome news: Peer Resources, as lead agency for the San Francisco Educator Pathway Coalition, has received a Collaborative Change Initiative Grant from the Hellman Foundation, starting in 2018!

There's a lot to be said about this--the amount of work it took for the dozen-plus members of the coalition to win this grant, the thoughtfulness of the process--but most important is this: Peer Resources is leading the way with other community organizations to grow educator leaders of and for San Francisco, with impact for our young people today and tomorrow, along with a transformed education system.

Imagine what it can mean for our youth and community if a critical mass of our teachers were people of color who came up through the system--who know it and know how it must be more just.

We aren't even close to doing this alone--we're working with multiple community orgs like Aim High, Jamestown Community Center, Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center (SNBC), Bayview YMCA, Mission Beacon Center SF, Richmond District Neighborhood Center, Metro College Success Program, the School of Education at University of San Francisco, as well as public partners like San Francisco Unified School District (HR, Career and Technical Education, EXCEL, and more) and City College of San Francisco.

Making transformative institutional change is hard, takes a long time, and a lot of people working together. And this is inspired by you, our community, of whom 55% of alumni have gone into careers in education, who recognized as young people serving other young people that this was something you believed in and wanted to make a life doing. The paths you have already taken to be the leaders in your community, to be teachers, counselors, administrators, and more, they haven't been simple or easy. In short, we're following in your footsteps and working to make it more equitable and accessible for all who want to follow--because like we need you, we need them, too.

Much love and thanks and excitement for all that's still to come!
