Miller's Merry Manor - Rockport

Miller's Merry Manor of Rockport is a Medicare certified nursing home and rehabilitation center.

We recently had our "Infection Control" survey from the Indiana Department of Health, and we passed with flying colors! Times are stressful, but it was so rewarding knowing that we are doing the right thing to keep our people safe and healthy! Thanks to all of our wonderful staff for making this a priority! Your dedication and hard-work is so appreciated! Keep up the good work and keep washing those hands!

We take our sweets seriously around here, so of course, we had to celebrate National Donut Day! We were lucky enough to get donuts from Rolling Pin Donuts, which is one of the best bakeries around! Once the staff found out about all of the donuts, there was a mad-dash to the breakroom. Sometimes you've got to just stop and smell the donuts! 🍩

We are so grateful that it turned out to be such a beautiful day yesterday! Our residents couldn't wait to get out in that sunshine! One of our residents, Mary, sure does love being outside. She is always curious about the temperature and what kind of weather we are having. So when the Activity Department asked if they wanted to go sit outside, Mary never hesitates. Mary's smile sure will brighten up your day! Have a great weekend! ☀️

Thank you, soldiers. We are grateful for your service and sacrifice. Happy Memorial Day!

#MyMillers #MemorialDay

Last week was National Skilled Nursing Care Week! Thanks to our Activity Department, we had a theme for each day! We started the week off with a sports theme. And if you are familiar with our area, there is quite a rivalry between Indiana and Kentucky. Those two teams were definitely the most popular for the day! Our resident, Loretta, is a HUGE University of Kentucky fan and her room is totally decked out in UK. But, most of the staff were representing Indiana, and one of our therapist, Monica, wasn't having it! It was such a fun day for everyone!

#MyMillers #NationalSkilledNursingCareWeek #NSNCW #NSNCW2020

We love our white squirrels and birds. Our residents see these animals regularly from the feeders around the building. We are happy to accept any donations of bird seed or corn to help keep our wildlife around. Thank you to everyone that donates!

We finally had a nice day that we could go out and enjoy some of the new flowers we planted around the building. The residents enjoyed checking them out. Don't worry, Mary was laughing and smiling under that mask! We had a good time! Thank you to our Activity Department for getting all the flowers planted.

What a perfect way to end National Nurses Week! Here at Rockport, we have been celebrating our outstanding nursing staff all week! We could not be more thankful for our awesome staff and the wonderful care that they provide to our residents. Even Mike, our Administrator, braved the rain and wind to grill for everyone!

We would like to extend a Happy Mother's Day to all the moms! We hope your day is filled with love and joy! "Mothers hold their children's hands for a short while, but their hearts forever."

Nothing is going to keep these ladies from their bingo! Yvone and Betty are enjoying bingo from their doorways so we can practice social distancing.

Thank you to Affinity Insurance Group for our delicious lunch from Angelo's! It sure was nice to have lasagna catered in for our staff. And thank you to Angelo's too! It was all so good. Everyone here at Rockport has been working so hard and they definitely deserved this! We have said it before and we will say it again, we are so lucky to live in such a giving community! Rockport truly is the best and we are thankful every day for their love and support.

Since visitors are not allowed in the building during this time, our Administrator, Mike Van Hoy, brought his dog, Kevin, in to say hi to everyone. All the residents and employees had a great time meeting him. Thanks, Kevin!

It's Wednesday, which is apparently known as "cake day" here at Rockport! Our staff has been so busy keeping the residents happy and healthy. So of course, we ordered cakes, and who doesn't love cake? You never know what you might get when the office staff is in charge of ordering them. But most of all, we hope that it was a nice surprise to our staff! It was a small gesture, but we sure are thankful to have the team that we do! Stay safe everyone, and don't forget to wash your hands!

Our very own Corey Alvey played the part of the Easter Bunny this year for our residents! Thank you to all of our employees and community donations. That helped make our Easter Sunday a little more enjoyable this year.

I know we have said it before, but our community ROCKS! Thank you so much to Karen Waninger for making these delicious cookies! The smiley faces wearing masks and the "thank you" cookies have definitely brightened our employee's day! We have such a giving community and couldn't be more thankful during this time! Thanks again to everyone that has donated and checked in on our residents and staff here at Miller's in Rockport. You mean the world to us!

We would like to congratulate our two newest CNAs! Abigail Davis (left) and Danielle Lawrence (far right) passed their state CNA exam this week! We are so proud of these girls. They have worked extremely hard to get to this point. We are very lucky to have these two on our team.

We need your help! We have had many people reach out to us to help make DIY face masks for our employees. Below are some instructions for the masks. We’ve also attached a link that gives a more detailed video to “similar” masks for you to follow.

Once completed, please contact your nearest Miller’s facility to schedule a drop-off. We thank you so much and appreciate your help very much!

We at Miller’s would like to thank our employees, residents, and our community for the support and strength they are offering during this challenging time. We understand the strain the visitation restrictions have placed on our patients and their loved ones. Hopefully our system for video chatting, the window visits, and your other creative ideas for communicating have helped bring some comfort. We greatly appreciate the outpouring of love that has been shown by those who have taken time to write letters to residents, sew masks for our staff, and donate items.

Again, we thank you.

As our communities and nation continue to deal with this ever-evolving situation, be assured that we are receiving regular updates and new guidance from the Governor’s Office, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the State Department of Health. In addition to the restrictions on visitation to our facilities, other protocols in our facilities have also changed. Though sometimes difficult, these measures all have one goal: to minimize the opportunities for our patients and employees to pick up the virus. We appreciate the overwhelming support we have received as we have implemented these recommendations.

Here are some of the other changes and updates now in place:

• To address the need for social distancing, residents have been encouraged to stay in their rooms as much as possible, and those who are able, are receiving meals in their rooms.

• For the same reason, our buildings are offering more individualized activities in patient rooms in place of conducting group activities.

• Most of our buildings are equipped with a Chromebook that is dedicated to be used for video chats with patients and their families and friends. Families can contact the front office to schedule a time to enjoy this new opportunity with their loved one. We also encourage patients and families equipped with personal smart phones to make more phone calls, FaceTime and Skype calls when able.

• The State Department of Health recently recommended that all employees wear masks as a precautionary measure. Our employees and communities have generously responded by donating a wide variety of masks. Many volunteers have sewn fabric masks which will be used by our non-clinical staff around the State. As healthcare workers around the nation deal with widespread shortages of masks and other protective equipment, we invite more volunteers to help us by making these DIY fabric masks, requiring basic sewing skills and ordinary supplies.

Do you have questions about the recommendations and changes made at Miller’s? We encourage you to continue to ask questions by calling our new toll free COVID-19 hotline at 1-844-647-3767, or by emailing us at [email protected]. A member of our hotline team will do their best to respond to questions by the next business day.

We want to give a huge shout out to our local flower shop, Lauer Floral & Gift Shop! They donated a rose for each of our residents to help brighten their day! 🌹🌹🌹 It is so awesome to see the out pour of love and support from our community during all of this! Thanks again to Lauer Floral! You all rock!

We recently celebrated a very special birthday! Last week one of our residents turned 100 years old! Mary has been looking forward to this birthday for a long time. One of her requests was for 100 balloons, which she got! We had cake and ice cream and celebrated with her family. It was a great afternoon celebrating a very special woman! Happy Birthday, Mary! 🎉

#MyMillers #HappyBirthday #BirthdayCelebration

The South Spencer Middle School Choir came to entertain our residents again! It is so much fun to see these kids perform! They sang several songs that our residents knew, and even recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Thanks again, SSMS Choir! You sure made our resident's day!

We were lucky enough to have Asera Care Hospice come to our facility to educate our staff on dementia. The representatives from Asera Care had a presentation and an activity for our employees. The activity simulated some of the problems that a dementia patient has on a daily basis. This was just a small look into their lives, but we are so glad to have had the opportunity to have participated in this! Thanks again, Asera Care!

#MyMillers #DementiaTraining #AlzheimersAwareness

Our residents had a great time at our Valentine's Day Party. We even nominated a King and a Queen for the day!

#MyMillers #ValentinesDay

Talk about talent! This is Vernie Shaefer and whenever he visits the facility, someone usually talks him into playing piano for the residents. This guy can play just about anything, with no sheet music! We are so very grateful that he takes the time to come entertain and visit with our residents. Thank you for all that you do, Vernie!

Employee Spotlight! We want to take a moment and showcase some of the awesome people that work at Miller's. Today we want to say THANK YOU to Darlene! Darlene is one of our CNAs here at Miller's in Rockport and always has a smile on her face. Her kind demeanor and gentle approach is one of the many reasons that makes our team so great! Thank you, Darlene!

#MyMillers #EmployeeSpotlight

We had two very special visitors over the weekend! Thank you to Beth Franchville for bringing "Jesse" and "James" to visit our residents! These two baby Pygmy goats were just a few weeks old and so sweet! Our residents absolutely loved them. You are welcome back anytime!

Bingo at Miller's in Rockport is a BIG deal! Thank you to the Activity Department for hosting bingo games frequently. Pictured here are two of residents having a good time, Angela and Virginia!

As usual, the "Merry Hearts" group did not disappoint! These kind gentlemen come to our building at least once a month and perform for our residents. They usually bring a crowd too! Friends and family of our residents and the band fill the dining room for some great music! Special thanks again to these guys. It is definitely a favorite for the residents.

Wishing you a Happy New Year! We hope 2020 is a great year for you!
