[11/26/20]   The South Queensbury Fire Department would like to wish you and your families a very happy and safe Thanksgiving!

Today the South Queensbury Fire Department, along with Bay Ridge Volunteer Fire Company and West Glens Falls Volunteer Fire Company trained together at the Warren County Training center. This drill was instructed by Scott Richards My Brother's Keeper - NE Emergency Training. Today's drill primarily focused on rescuing people in a downed aircraft, and the use of foam as a means of fire suppression.

Don't forget to change your smoke detector batteries this Sunday when you set your clocks back an hour!

Remember, smoke detectors save lives!

On 9/30 the South Queensbury Fire Department conducted a vehicle stabilization/extrication drill. Members were able to brush up on their extrication skills. They also put into service a new accessory for their Holmatro spreader tool. This accessory can quickly and easily replace the regular tips on the spreader tool and add a set of chains with hooks on the end of them. This accessory allows firefighters to lift the entire steering wheel and dash board assembly high enough to free the patient.

If you placed an order last year and didn’t pick up you can still get them!

Also a big thank you to Bay Ridge Rescue Squad for joining along with us.

At 06:53 we were dispatched mutual aid to the Fort Edward Fire Department district for a working commercial structure fire at 1099 Burgoyne Avenue. Rescue 106 and all available SCBA personnel were requested to the scene, Rescue 106 responded with a full crew and additional members responded to the scene.

Upon arrival we saw heavy yellow and black smoke with heavy fire. The crew from Rescue 106 went out back for orders from Fort Edward command, we were requested to cut a roll up door to start extinguishing fire.

Our orders were quickly changed to do a search in an office where people are known to sleep. We forced the door and were met with heavy thick smoke but no fire. Lieutenant Noble and Safety Officer Porter made entry to do a rapid initial search and Firefighter Dorrer followed behind with a hand line. No one was found inside during search operations.

All crews were pulled from making any interior operations and went defensive. We were on scene till about 15:00 hours.

Great job to all who operated on scene and to all the stand by crews covering other districts!

Engine 307 responded with a full crew. Kingsbury and the crew from Engine 307 pulled ceilings down to check for any fire extension and checked the other apartments. Fire was quickly knocked down by the Kingsbury crew.

Great job to all who operated on scene! 💪🏼

Mop up operations.

Fire that extended into the woods.

When engine 307 first arrived.

On 4/7/2020 Engine 307 with a crew of 3 were heading to the First Responder parade in Glens Falls, to support the hospital staff during the COVID crisis. They made a quick stop at Stewart’s on Dix Ave to grab a drink. As Safety Officer Porter was headed back to the engine he noticed a lot of smoke coming from behind Walmart and advised the crew. They decided to go check it out and see what was going on, upon their arrival they saw a lot more smoke. Captain Morrison advised the county we were out investigating a smoke condition behind Walmart in the field.

The crew went up the hill to investigate and found a large fast moving brush fire. The crew quickly advised the county of the working fire and had additional resources dispatched. The fire also quickly spread into the woods at the other end of fire. Firefighter Fitzgibbon and Safety Officer Porter worked on containing the spread of fire before other units arrived while Captain Morrison was acting command. Chief Harrington arrived on scene, took over command and dispatched mutual aid as the fire was spreading quickly in all different directions. Shortly after brush 109 arrived on scene and was able to get us water to slow down some of the spread.

We received mutual aid brush trucks, UTVs and manpower from the following agencies:

Queensbury Central Vol. Fire Company
Bay Ridge Volunteer Fire Company
West Glens Falls Volunteer Fire Company
Kingsbury Volunteer Hose Company
NYS Department of Environmental Conservation

We would like to thank all who operated on scene, you all did an outstanding job!
