Music With a Cause

Music With a Cause was started by Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church. It is a classical concert series that is raising proceeds for local non-profits.

[10/06/17]   Looking forward to our next concert. Alan Saucedo, from Middleburg, and his trio will be joined by our own Brian Ganz in a benefit for Boulder Crest Retreat, a healing place for wounded and traumatized troops and their families in Bluemont. October 29th at 4:00 pm at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, Purcellville.

Timeline Photos

Brian Ganz sold out the house tonight for Music With a Cause!!! He was amazing. A good amount of money was raised for LAWS, and we appreciate Sarah Huntington Photography for her very generous donation of some beautiful photography. Thank you to everyone who attended.

Music With a Cause has a new "MVP" of our fan club. Regular attendee, Carole Lester, was seen handing out her own flyers for our Brian Ganz Concert (on January 22nd) today!
I want to say a HUGE "Thank you" to Carole Lester for passing the word.
If you would like to pass out posters for our next concert, please contact us, and we can make that happen.

St. Andrew - Welcome!

January 22, 4pm. Brian Ganz and CHOPIN! Music with a Cause Sunday concerts at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Purcellville continues with a concert to benefit the Loudoun Abused Women's Shelter. The concert will feature internationally renowned pianist and award-winning Chopin specialist Brian Ganz in a recital of works from the Romantic composer's youth, including nocturnes, polonaises, mazurkas, etudes and a rarely heard set of variations on the charming German air, "Der Schweizerbub." In a demonstration he likens to "musical gardening," Mr. Ganz will play works containing "seeds of genius," composed when Chopin was as young as 11 years old, and follow them with works in the same genres written shortly after the composer reached the bloom of artistic maturity. Tickets are $15 at the door; seniors $12; ages 17 and under admitted free. Tickets available on Eventbrite at http://tinyurl.com/hssrp4q. Come enjoy music of 18th century Virginia by renowned specialists David & Ginger Hildebrand on Sunday, October 30 at 4pm at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Purcellville. The program, a presentation of Music with a Cause concerts benefitting local non-profit organizations, will include patriotic songs, ballads, marches, dance tunes, and theater songs enjoyed by locals in Virginia some 250 years ago. The concert will benefit Boulder Crest Retreat, serving our nation's combat veterans and their families. Tickets are $15 at the door; seniors $12; ages 17 and under admitted free. Authentic and reproduction instruments, including the violin, Baroque guitar, English guitar, hammered dulcimer, spinet (harpsichord), and English flute will be featured. Costumed appropriately, the Hildebrands will bring their musical and historical expertise to what promises to be both an entertaining and educational afternoon. This program highlights both the formal and less refined aspects of music associated with early Virginia. Spoken introductions and stories will put the music and instruments into context. David & Ginger will linger for questions and informal discussion after the concert.

The Hildebrands specialize in researching, recording, and performing early American music. Since 1980 they have presented concerts and educational programs throughout the country for museums, historical societies, public schools, and universities. Mount Vernon, the Smithsonian Institution, The National Gallery of Art, The National Archives, Colonial Williamsburg, and the Styriarte Festival (in Graz, Austria) are among their past sponsors.

The Hildebrands have recorded seven CD's featuring early American music, and their latest release marks the 200th anniversary of "The Star-Spangled Banner," written by St. John's College graduate Francis Scott Key. The Hildebrands have also provided soundtrack materials and served as period music consultants for PBS broadcasts, including the series Liberty!--the American Revolution, and one-hour specials Jefferson: A View from the Mountain, Re-discovering George Washington, and Anthem. In 1999, along with dance historians Kate van Winkle and Robert Keller, they founded The Colonial Music Institute (www.colonialmusic.org).

Ginger holds an M.M. from the Peabody Conservatory; David's M.A. is from George Washington University and his Ph.D. from The Catholic University of America. David consults and lectures widely and he teaches American Music history at Peabody; he has a book on music in Maryland forthcoming from Johns Hopkins University Press in the spring; Ginger teaches privately and at Key School and Severn School. She also tours with Ensemble Galilei and Trio Galilei and is especially involved in their work with wounded warriors.

The next Music with a Cause concert will feature the Loudoun Chorale on December 3 at ?. For more information about future concerts visit www.standrew-pres.org or call 540-338-4332 during business hours.
