Day 9 of #rootandflourish is welcoming prayer and Day 10 is #eaglepose
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Praying this beautiful verse for my cousin today. I can’t fix it, but I can rest and trust God to give her the strength and rest and peace she needs. There is no other strength but in God.
My welcoming prayer helped me focus and be grateful for the present rather than always be forward thinking - my natural tendency as an enneagram 3.

“those who wait upon GOD get fresh strength. They spread their wings and soar like eagles, They run and don’t get tired, they walk and don’t lag behind.”

Day 8 of #rootandflourish is revolved hand to big toe pose.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
This is my absolute favorite verse, filled with so much meaning and words that I love to pray.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
“For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭3:14-19‬ ‭NASB‬‬

Day 7 of #rootandflourish is a sabbath prayer walk or meditation in a specific space.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
As we end our time with family at our reunion, my husband has felt led to help my cousin with a bucket list item - to extend a deck on her house. He worked with her husband, brother and son to help begin make this dream come true for her on our last day here. We are praying this will be sacred space and sanctuary for them. This verse is so comforting as we say goodbye.

“You can be sure that God will take care of everything you need, his generosity exceeding even yours in the glory that pours from Jesus.”

Day 6 of #rootandflourish is #dancerpose and how I express a heart overflowing with gladness.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Gladness usually overcomes me during worship songs in church when I don’t sing along, but close my eyes and listen to the lyrics, meditate on His goodness in my life. Sometimes it will leak a little from my eyes. Internal to external gladness. Gladness also overcomes me when I dance and be just a little crazy. Here’s my sister dancing with our uncle. Our family’s love of dancing seems to be genetic - starting with our 92-year old uncle who still goes to group dances twice a week. He wears us all out. External to internal gladness.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
“Young women will dance and be happy, young men and old men will join in. I’ll convert their weeping into laughter, lavishing comfort, invading their grief with joy.”

Days 4 and 5 of #rootandflourish is #halfmoonpose , what we are most grateful for as we consider the work of our Creator God and centering prayer.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
I am grateful for family. I remember at our first family reunion, one of my cousins asked if I ever felt differently about him because he was adopted. Honestly I was caught off guard because I never thought of him as different from any of the rest of the cousins. In fact, we have four cousins who are adopted. We are one family, beautifully created by God. We have a lot going on this weekend at our reunion. Celebrating life together and the heritage our parents extended to us and we hope the legacy will continue in the generations to come. Making and keeping connections. I loved this verse as my centering prayer today.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
“But Lord, your endless love stretches from one eternity to the other, unbroken and unrelenting toward those who fear you and those who bow facedown in awe before you. Your faithfulness to keep every gracious promise you’ve made passes from parents, to children, to grandchildren, and beyond.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭103:17‬ ‭TPT‬‬

Day 3 of #rootandflourish - Examen
🙏 This was a new meditation practice for me and it was so helpful to center me in Him today. 🙏Praying the prayer of examen invites us to notice the places throughout the day where the Spirit of God was indeed present. Perhaps we perceive His presence in the moment, but often it takes quiet reflection to notice His movement as part of the whole. The examen is an exercise that highlights the moments in our day that were life-giving as well as places that were not. This tool is wonderful for discerning God’s leading and his purpose for our lives.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Today I am grateful for family. We feel the weight of family members experiencing trials, and the examen helped me see that we have had great times of family togetherness that I have taken for granted. It was, in fact, family funerals that spurred our family to begin our biannual family reunions, so we could celebrate life together.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
“Take care of yourself, have a good time, and make the most of whatever job you have for as long as God gives you life. And that’s about it. That’s the human lot. Yes, we should make the most of what God gives, both the bounty and the capacity to enjoy it, accepting what’s given and delighting in the work. It’s God’s gift! God deals out joy in the present, the now. It’s useless to brood over how long we might live.”

Root and Flourish Challenge
Day #2 - Tree Pose
🌳
Whenever I really look at this tree, I delight in its story. For 25 years I thought it was an unruly shrub that kept growing big and encroached on the sidewalk. I would fight it with a hedge trimmer and raze it to 3 feet once or twice a year so people could walk comfortably by our house. And then I found out that it was a cherry tree! So I pruned the bottom branches and let the top grow. I’m amazed at how much it’s grown in three years. All those years of useless struggle and now it is a reminder to me to let myself and others listen to God and flourish in all that God has called us to be in Him - and be thankful.

“Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭2:7 ESV‬‬

To do tree pose:
🌳 Begin in mountain pose, with hands at heart center. Root evenly into all four corners of both feet and spread the toes. Find a point to focus your gaze on in front of you.
🌳 Maintaining your grounding into the left foot, begin to shift all of your body weight onto that leg. Bend the right knee, outwardly rotating the right leg so that you can place your right foot on the inner left calf or thigh. Alternatively, the right foot can come to the inner left ankle, creating a kickstand with the big toe of the right foot to aid in balance.
🌳 As you inhale, lengthen the spine as you reach the arms overhead. Feel free to be creative with your expression here, or to maintain the hands at heart center for balance.
🌳 Repeat on the other side

Root and Flourish Challenge
Day # 1 - Breath Prayer
This is what my breath prayer looks like. Yoga / Meditation / Listening to God off of my mat. Being present and fighting my inclination to look at my phone and plan my day.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

I loved the verses @cmarkseager shared at Cedar Run Community Church yesterday “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth . . . You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.” ‭‭John‬ ‭14:16, 17‬ ‭ESV‬‬

This is the foundation of breath prayer - He is as close to us as our very breath.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

For the past few months my breath prayer has been:
😌 Inhale - Engrave myself into Him
- to remain silent - : חָרַשׁ chârash - to engrave, plough; speak not a word, be still, hold tongue. Action in my inaction.
😌 Exhale - Engraved in Him. I am engraved in His hands and feet. He loves me more than I can comprehend.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

To practice breath prayer, follow these steps. 🌱Make yourself comfortable wherever you are. Breathe slowly and deeply into your belly. Intentionally place yourself before God.
🌱Inhale a word or phrase that centers you in Him
🌱 Exhale a word or phrase that centers you in Him
🌱Begin with practicing breath prayer for just 5 minutes and gradually increase the length.
Know you can return to your breath prayer throughout your day.
Thank you @farmingyogi and @brendawestfallyoga and Holy Yoga Brighton for encouraging us to flow and flourish in Him wherever we are.

Joining in on this challenge on the days I can. It looks beautiful. Join us or follow along. ❤️

“I am the sprouting vine and you’re my branches. As you live in union with me as your source, fruitfulness will stream from within you—but when you live separated from me you are powerless.” John 15:5 TPT

This familiar passage in John reminds us that in order to live a fruitful life, we must stay connected to our source - Jesus. We must be deeply ROOTED in order to FLOURISH.

Our upcoming Root And Flourish Instagram Challenge is designed to encourage you in this practice! Our rootedness stems from the time we spend pondering and delighting in the Word of God. As we root into our sure foundation, we will flourish and rise up to experience balance and freedom: body, mind and spirit! To express the importance of being rooted in Christ, this 10 day challenge will alternate between contemplative practices and yoga postures.

Join our tribe of Certified Holy Yoga Instructors in our upcoming Root And Flourish Instagram Challenge! We will be posting daily challenges beginning on Monday, June 17th.

I’m excited about this upcoming study starting in September. Signups will begin in June!

Without knowing ourselves we cannot truly know God. Our wisdom has two sides: A knowing of self and a knowing of God.
.
There are many layers to this knowing, and it is not a simple task to say which part comes before the other.
.
In this 4-week study, we will utilize the knowledge of the Enneagram to explore how coming to know ourselves ultimately allows us to grow in a richer relationship with Jesus and with others.
.
Whether you are new to the Enneagram or have studied it extensively, this study is for you!
.
Registration will open early June so stay tuned!

“now that you’ve found
you don’t have to listen to sin tell you what to do,
and have discovered
the delight
of listening to God, what a surprise!”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭6:22 MSG‬‬
.
.
.
When we find God and turn from old ways, the delightful surprise is being able to hear and listen to God. He has so much to tell us that we can now hear - His unabashedly infinite and unconditional love, how He has been / is / will be present with us in celebration and difficulties, and the resulting freedom to give and share this gift with others. When we are rooted and grounded in Him, we rise and fly in His love.

“Don’t run from tests and hardships, brothers and sisters. As difficult as they are, you will ultimately find joy in them; if you embrace them, your faith will 🌸blossom🌸 under pressure and teach you true patience as you endure.” James 1:2-3 The Voice

“Is there a goal you’ve been working toward? An ambition or dream you’ve been aiming to reach? The Lord knows how many hours you’ve put in and how much energy you’ve expended. He’s not unaware or ambivalent to your diligence. He knows your hardships and frustrations. And with every step, He’s been working right along with you, nipping and tucking and turning you into a version of you that’s increasingly mature.” ~ Priscilla Shirer, Awaken.

to remain silent - : חָרַשׁ chârash - to engrave, plough; speak not a word, be still, hold tongue.
📖 I love how being silent doesn’t imply inaction. I can dig deeper into God. Christ is my example of being content😩➡️😌 to let God set things right. Who better? I am engraved in His hands and feet. He is engraved in my heart. I hope to remember that I can run to God. And then listen so I can gain His perspective and place my complete trust in Him. As we practice yoga and life, we will hopefully learn not to struggle to find peace, but to confidently receive the peace of the Holy Spirit that is already within us.

“Religion: I messed up. My dad is gonna kill me.
Gospel: I messed up. I need to call my Dad.”
.
.
What a reminder that my head can go “religious” when I know the gospel in my heart. Shame for messing up. Our loving Father already forgave us for all of it - past, present and future. Present - today, yesterday. Deep in my soul past. And how I undoubtedly will make mistakes or hurt someone, unwillingly or not, in the future. But God doesn’t want us to feel bogged down by any shame. Conviction, yes. But not shame. He showed His magnanimous, overwhelming love for us by laying it all on His only and beloved Son. Who does that? Only God. Shame keeps us from living in the freedom and joy He wants us to experience in our lives with Him. As @taraleighcobble says, “He is where the joy is!”

“Become friends with God; he’s already a friend with you. How? you ask. In Christ. God put the wrong on him who never did anything wrong, so we could be put right with God.” ‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭5:20-21‬ ‭MSG‬‬

“I’m convinced: You can do anything and everything. Nothing and no one can upset your plans.” ‭‭Job‬ ‭42:2 ‭MSG‬‬
.
.
.
Hope or fear. What characterizes you today? This is Job, after all he went through, and encouragement for us to always hope. Hope is confident expectation. Confidence based on the unchanging truth and perfection in love of our God.
.

.
“May God give you a sense of what He’s up to in your life. May you see glimpses of the breakthrough that is just up ahead. May you, with all your heart, believe that trusting Him over what your eyes see, is totally and completely worth it. May you shift your weight off of your logical reasonings and into the weightiness of His powerful promises to you. You have got help and resources that go far beyond anything that you could ever need. Smile with joy and walk by faith today. He has got you.” ~ Susie Larson
