Did you miss yesterday's special [email protected] Talk w/ @SANSDefense Instructor Micah Hoffman? You can watch it on demand and gain some #OSINT (open source intelligence) wisdom ***for FREE*** via the SANS YouTube channel: youtu.be/BVFhMqktkeE
Using free web sites, built in web browser tools, and free python scripts, Micah shows how to harvest data from social media applications, the "whois" system, and from breach data that will not appear in search engine results. Watch to gain a better understanding of JSON, APIs, reverse whois, and how to run python tools.
Micah Hoffman has been active in the information technology field since 1998, working with federal government, commercial, and internal customers to discover and quantify cybersecurity weaknesses within their organizations. Want to learn about adversary techniques and how you can detect them? View the free [email protected] webcast with SANS Instructor Michel Coene on the SANS YouTube channel: youtu.be/xmNpS9mbwEc
The current endpoint monitoring capabilities available to us are unprecedented. Many tools and our self/community-built detection rules rely on parent-child relationships and command-line arguments to detect malicious activity taking place on a system.
There are, however, ways the adversaries can get around these detections. In this presentation, Michel Coene talks about the following techniques and how we can detect them:
- Parent-child relationships spoofing
- Command-line arguments spoofing
- Process injection
- Process hollowing
In addition to his work at SANS, Michel Coene is the incident response lead at NVISO where he manages a team of incident responders and forensic analysts that respond to cyber incidents worldwide.
Michel looks at security problems from both an offensive and defensive perspective, matching perfectly with the purple teaming perspective of SEC599 (also known as course ISE 6250 at SANS.edu): Defeating Advanced Adversaries - Purple Team Tactics & Kill Chain Defenses.

PLEASE SHARE: In response to the coronavirus pandemic, more employees than ever are working from home. But for many businesses, managing a remote workforce is completely new. To keep organizations and employees safe and secure, SANS has made public a massive Work-From-Home Deployment Kit with everything organizations need to quickly and effectively secure their workforce at home.
The kit provides a strategic step-by-step guide that includes what to teach your workforce, the top risks to focus on, what departments to coordinate with, and how to effectively engage and communicate to your workforce.
These resources include commercial training materials in multiple languages that organizations normally purchase from SANS, which SANS is releasing for free in the public interest. Thanks to the SANS Institute, SANS Security Awareness, and SANS.edu faculty member Lance Spitzer.
