Small Country Campground

Small Country Campground

Whether you decide to reserve a rental, bring in your RV or sleep out under the stars, we'll be here to give you and your family a great camping adventure to remember.

Family owned and operated for over 40 years. We pride ourselves on giving a wonderful camping experience for all generations. Lots of activities and amenities for the kids, quiet scenic camping along beautiful Lake Ruth Ann.

The most fun campground in Central Virginia

When everyone is in town for Thanksgiving-- you put them to work!! A little family bonding clearing out some leaves in the Orange, Blue, and Yellow sections (and who gave Chris the keys to the backhoe???) 🍂💪🍁

Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours! We're very excited to announce new ownership at Small Country and look forward to meeting you all in the 2020 camping season! --The Millers

Although we do not have anything scheduled for this weekend, there are lots of Halloween festivities locally!

We had a ton of fun on our Halloween Weekend! Pumpkins, crafts, great costumes, trick or treating, candy and more candy! Thank you everyone for helping make this weekend so much fun! 🎃

What's a good #camping trip without stargazing?? ✨

Winners of the site decorating contest are The Morris Family-Orange 23 and The Gembach Family-Green 4! Honorable mentions go to The Andrews Family-Brown 5, The Pippin Family-Brown 6, The Farmer Family-Gold 4, The Hall Family-Red 1, and The Noble Family-Canary! Thanks to everyone for decorating this HalloWeekend 🎃

We are ready for a great fall camping weekend of fun Halloween activities! Bring on the decorating and great costumes! Best site and costumes for all age groups! 🎃 #SCCHalloWeekend

We are rapidly approaching a full campground for HalloWeekend, Oct 25-27! Due to the great response, this year's festivities will be for our campers and their guests only. Public day use will be suspended for the weekend. Please call to check availability as we have a few camping sites left!

Burn ban has been lifted! The Department of Forestry is still advising special care with any fires, keep them contained and attended and have water or an extinguishing agent on hand.

After a good day of rain on Sunday, the Louisa County Department of Fire and Emergency Services said today they are ending the open air burn ban. The ban was put in place on Oct. 4. Residents are advised that fall wildfire season continues through Nov. 30.

Reminder to all guests - There is a county wide burn ban in effect due to low rain fall recently. This ban includes all wood fires including campfires (yes, even in a fire pit). We know, we are bummed about it too! But your safety and the safety of all guests is our top priority. There is a $500 fine for wood fires from the county. You will be warned once and repeat offenders will be asked to leave without a refund. Thanks for your understanding!

Your rain dances worked! We are getting some MUCH needed rain today! Fingers crossed that we will be enjoying fall campfires again soon! 🤞🏼

Rain is (finally) falling across the region!

Periods of rain will continue through early to mid afternoon before tapering. As of 9:20 AM, most locations have picked up around a tenth of an inch.

The Central Virginian

The Virginia Department of Transportation will be trimming trees along Louisa Road (Route 22) and Courthouse Road (Route 208) from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15 through Friday, Oct. 18. Expect mobile, alternating lane closures.

The affected area of Louisa Road stretches from Route 33 (Jefferson Highway) to the Albemarle County line. The affected portion of Courthouse Road is from Route 640 (East Jack Jouett Road) to the Spotsylvania County line.

Gordonsville Volunteer Fire Company

Burn ban is still in effect.

We are still very dry in the Gordonsville area. Please do not do any outside burning. Louisa has an outdoors burn ban still in effect.

Dry Conditions Raise Likelihood of Forest Fires in Central Virginia

Trust us, we want to enjoy a nice campfire as much as the rest of you. No one at Small Country WANTS to ask you to put out your campfire. The fact of the matter is it’s a safety issue and we will ask you to leave if you refuse to follow the rules. A lack of summer rains could mean a less colorful fall in, but it also has Virginia Department of Forestry officials worried about the likelihood of forest fires.

"One of the driest falls in 20 years"

The county of Louisa has instituted a burn ban due to “one of the driest falls in 20 years.” Unfortunately that means no campfires here at Small Country until the ban is lifted. You are still able to use charcoal or propane grills for food, however we will be asking you to put out any wood ground fires.

Side note: anyone know a good rain dance? Louisa County officials imposed a burn ban on Oct. 4, citing the potential for the recent lack of rain and falling leaves to create ideal conditions for wildfires.

[10/08/19]   This is a member of the Small family. Bill and Kathy lost their brother in law. He leaves behind a beautiful wife Rose, and three sons, Garrett, Shane, and Dillon. Thanks for anything you can contribute.

Thanks Wolf's Revenge BBQ and all our other amazing vendors for all of the incredible food at our Que And Cruz Festival this past weekend! 😍🍗

We love contests that are close to home and feel very fortunate to have Bill Small’s #queandcruz close to home. This was the very first contest we ever cooked back in 2007. Small Country Campground is a great venue and they support a worthy cause as all proceeds go to the UVA’s Children’s Hospital.

We took 1st in chicken, 5th in ribs, 11th in Pork and our A9 brisket from the @thebutchershoppe took 8th. This was good enough for 4th overall but we didn’t have near enough points to beat the Piggy from 3N1Q who took Grand Champion. Congratulations to Mark Jacobs and team for a fantastic first time Reserve Grand! Our last surprise award was first place in Peoples Choice, we are blessed for sure!

Thank you again Bill Small and all of your your volunteers for all the hard work you guys put in to have a great venue for us to compete. Fingers are crossed that you find a way to put this event on again for years to come!

Never Forget 🇺🇸🙏

So I have a lot of people ask me why we raise money for the Uva Children’s Hospital through Que and Cruz. Our granddaughter was born on March 30 2016. She was born with only one kidney and they said she was born at stage 4 kidney failure. We raise money for the research into why these Gods gifts are born with this disease. Please, come out and join us at Que and Cruz on October 5th at Small Country Campgrounds locates at 4400 Byrd Mill Rd Louisa Va 23093. Please like and share this post. Kids like Lindsey need your support. Thank you.

Did you know... the dates this week are all palindromes?! The means that they read the same way forwards and backwards. 😁
