Mari and her team were absolutely amazing. Planning a wedding can be a very stressful process and Mari made everything better with her calm, reassuring presence. She has impeccable taste and an incredible sense for how things should go, we were in excellent hands. She arranged the most beautiful flowers and tables for us as well. I would HIGHLY recommend her to anyone getting hitched. Everything turned out perfectly and we could not have done it without her.

We celebrated one of our favorite people (and one of our former brides!) @adembowska last weekend with a Baby Sprinkle. It was our first time hosting at @likeso.co and was a sweet day of wild strawberries, tie dye, cake and sunshine 🍓🍋 🍰 ☀️

BIG NEWS @tropicofflowers! We have relocated to New England to pursue our family’s dream of opening a venue. This beautiful old barn located at the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains has seen many lives in its near 200 years standing, including shelter for animals, a setting for weddings as well as recording studio where Nina Simone and Lena Horne both recorded! We are working hard to get this ready for whenever it is safe to gather again. We can’t wait to host many more weddings and events here someday and to offer some beautiful event design and floral installations for our clients. Don’t worry, we still have a handful of florals booked for weddings in California scheduled for next year so this isn’t goodbye! We are also currently offering our floral/paper/event design services to Boston, NYC and the greater New England area. This year has been extremely challenging to say the least, but grateful it has been the catalyst for this new adventure of a family biz with my sweets @heymamajama @lsorozco
@janettics @tropicofmari ❄️We are excited to share our journey of progress with you!

One year ago today, on a beach in the Yucatán, @jennifervanilla sang a bossa nova cover of “Cherish” as I walked down the aisle with my sweet parents, @mwtarotscopes did a love spell with all of our nearest and dearest, @janettics made everyone cry with her vows and then @failureprincess pronounced us married💙💓photo: @emilywrenphoto

How have you spent your downtime during quarantine? We’ve spent much of 2020 leaning about the medicinal properties of plants. We also started and Like So, an online platform to showcase diverse voices within food, plant and wellness worlds with BIPOC and LGBTQ+ folx at the forefront. Our wedding industry is predominantly white, straight and conservative. From representation featured on mainstream wedding blogs you can see just the tip of the iceberg of racism and homophobia in our industry. Since I first began working in the wedding world, I have made it my goal to do my part to diversify it create content that always features LGBTQ and BIPOC people. I have seen these shoots featuring diverse couples rejected over and over by mainstream blogs because they are “just not a good match.” We know exactly what they mean by that. They mean the couples are not straight or white enough.

As a q***r Latinx person I have often felt I should downplay my identity because it didn’t fit into the rigid heteronormative whiteness of the wedding world. This has been my experience as a straight-passing and white-passing person in the wedding industry. I cannot even begin to imagine what my black and non-passing POC/LGBTQ friends and colleagues experience. I want to challenge our industry to do better. I want to challenge our world to do better. Hire BIPOC vendors. Cater to BIPOC clients. Listen to BIPOC voices. Feature BIPOC couples. REPRESENTATION MATTERS!

Please check out my stories to read my beloved sister-in-law’s powerful words on her experience being a black bride who couldn’t find herself represented in wedding blogs. Follow @notquite_white for her essays on her lived black experiences.
