Alzheimer 'tau' protein far surpasses amyloid in predicting toll on brain tissue: Tau PET brain imaging could launch precision medicine era for Alzheimer's disease

Brain scans could point to new direction in Alzheimer's research

Researchers say that a new brain scanning tool that identifies tau protein tangles may be able to predict which brain regions will be most damaged by Alzheimer's disease. By tracking areas of the brain with abnormal tau buildup, the scans may predict whether Alzheimer's is more likely to impact an individual's memory or language skills, and may also support the accelerated development of new drugs.

sciencedaily.com The results support researchers' growing recognition that tau drives brain degeneration in Alzheimer's disease more directly than amyloid protein, and at the same time demonstrates the potential of recently developed tau-based PET (positron emission tomography) brain imaging technology to accelerate...

These uncharted times are difficult for all us to understand, especially those suffering from dementia. At Legacy, we commend the caregivers and medical professionals for their bravery and patience.

1. Be on the look-out for communications and offers from unknown or untrusted
sources seeking money or personal information.
2. If someone calls you and asks for your information, and you’re not expecting the call, hang up.
3. If you don’t recognize the phone number, hang up. If there’s no message, it’s probably a scammer.
4. If an email comes to you through Messenger or Facebook, check with your friend first before you click on the thing your friend sent you.
5. Don’t open up suspicious texts or emails. If something pops up on your internet, do not click on it.
6. Keeping your computer security, malware, and your firewalls secure is good hygiene just like washing your hands in hot, soapy water.
7. Remember that no government agency will EVER reach out to you by telephone
or email requesting personal, financial, or payment information. NO EXCEPTIONS.
8. If you use the Internet to contact a government agency, or even a company you have ordered something from before, make sure you are contacting the correct website. If you are trying to communicate with a government agency that the web address does not end in “.gov,” you are dealing with an imposter.
9. Never download information or files from any website you are not 100% certain is legitimate.
10. If you receive a request for a charitable donation by phone or online, ask the fundraiser to send you information by regular mail. Legitimate charities are used to this request and will accommodate you. Scammers will not bother to follow up in writing.
