I am so proud to post this. One of our students took on a challenge I issued 3 weeks ago.
I challenged the students to run 1 mile in the course of 90 days. That means they had 90 days to build up their stamina to run a mile without stopping. I allowed them to attend me pictures, videos, t-shirts with their name on it, things of the sort.
This young man wanted to show me that he was really committed to completing this task. So he started training with a coach to build up his endurance. His mother later informed me that he was going to run in the Marine Corps Marathon. I was flabbergasted. 🤯🤯🤯 Then I found out that there is a Fun Run that's a little over a mile. I didn't even know that existed. 😅😅😅
So today, he went and rocked it! He took the short term goal and worked until he crushed. He completed the run without stopping AND he was with the pacer!
This is a lesson for ME to keep striving for MY goals, long term and short. See you in class.

For those that are unaware, October is a special month for some. It's not just about celebrating the candy, costumes, and parties. 🍬🍭🍬🍫👹👹👹 There is something else that needs attention.
October is National Breast Cancer awareness month. This disease afflicts so many people, and therefore affects many families. Despite the leaps and bounds of modern science, we are still fighting a MAJOR war for the cure and the prevention of this disease.
We at Super Kicks Karate are joining the battle. In a perfect world, we would make cancer disappear. Since we can't, we want to help as much as possible. So, for the month of October, we will be wearing PINK belts to show our support for those struggling with this problem. To get a pink belt, simply ask any of the instructors and they will happily assist you.

If you think about it, this statement seems simple enough, but there is significant meaning behind it. It applies to so many things in our daily lives that we do as we work towards accomplishing goals that we have set for ourselves.
For Master Holeman, receiving his Red Top required many things. Hard work 💪🏾, dedication, desire, and practice 🥋 are just few of them. He has worked profusely and endlessly with lots of sweat 😓 (and sometimes blood) to achieve this. He will continue to do his best and strive further as his next goal is to receive his Black Top!

Our after school students love reciting the "Super Kicks" student oath! It teaches them and reminds them of how to think about themselves and how to treat others. This is how our students begin to earn their black belts AND become leaders. 🏆🏆🏆

In martial arts we know you you have to practice to get better. It takes time for the body and the muscles to get used to the movements. I have learned that you don't have to practice long, just often. Your body will evolve overtime to perform. Simply practice a technique for 10 minutes a day for 5 days. I promise you will see and feel yourself get stronger. 🥋🥋🥋
When training in the martial arts(regardless of the style), you will always have one competitor who never leaves your side. This opponent can either help you or hinder you. This forever opponent is YOU. You have to push yourself to be stronger, faster, and mentally tougher than you THINK. Before any of us learned how to walk, we had to learn how to crawl. When training in karate, before we can advance to more challenging techniques, we must have solid basics. Even something as seemingly simple as a forward stance needs to be SOLID. Learn the basics well, then the advanced movements come easier.
