Alum Daisy and baby sister Georgia, happy in isolation.
I cannot believe we have had this little girl for more than 5 years! Thanks Save the Tails and love the work you do!
It's been one year since we adopted this goofball. We love our Scout. 🥰 Thanks, STT!
I just came across this on Facebook and thought it would be great for people to read.
This is our Yogi we adopted a few years ago from STTI. He has been the perfect addition to our family. Thank you very much for this wonderful soul.
Here is Loula, once Ginger, adopted about 5 years ago. Possibly the best dog on the planet, and you were kind enough to find her for us!
Everyone meet, Frankie!! This poor guy hasn’t had the greatest life. He was chained up to a tree his whole life. He has never experienced what it was like to be in a warm home, run around off leash, or just feel loved for once. What broke my heart was that the vet found a BB pellet in his leg, but don’t worry, it doesn’t bother him. How can anyone do that to this little guy?! He is the most lovable dog I have ever met and just wants to be curled up beside you and give you all the kisses. Frankie is now safe from his previous life and is curled up next to me snoring away! Who wants to adopt this little guy?!

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, volunteer based dog rescue group in Loudoun County, VA. Our dogs come from Baltimore, Southern VA, W.V., and N.C. where the rural shelters are always full and there aren't enough people to adopt. Dogs are not spayed or neutered and without leash laws in these areas there is an overwhelming overpopulation. We fully vet our dogs then re-home them across Maryland and VA.

We are Save the Tails, Inc., a dog rescue group based in Loudoun County, Virginia. We pull dogs from kill shelters and find them homes. In our 10 years of existence we have saved over 900 healthy, beautiful dogs from certain euthanasia and made as many local families very happy. Please help us save them. Right now shelters are full of hopeful dogs in hopeless situations. With YOUR help, WE CAN save them! There is something everybody can do in the community. FOSTER a dog. Provide a temporary sanctuary in your home until a shelter dog can be adopted. This is imperative! Fostering gets dogs out of kill shelters. Fostered dogs are more likely to be adopted. Having a foster dog gives Dad an excuse to go outside and throw a ball, take the dog on long hikes, or have a buddy to greet him when he walks in the door. Even the gruffest dad can’t resist a puppy, and dads will love couch and football time even more with a new furry friend at their feet.

The Hunting Dog Problem

Yes, Banjo was one of many abandoned hounds that plague rural areas. Used for hunting but not seen as pets, little is invested in their care. It looks like Banjo had reached an age where he was no longer fit for hunting, so his owner either let him run away or just deserted him.

Abandoned hounds (includes beagles) are a real problem in rural counties, especially in the south. Often used solely for hunting, many either get lost or are dumped at shelters at the end of hunting season.

Banjo arrived a sweet senior who was skin and bones. He’d either been poorly taken care of or was left to fend for himself for too long. You will see a lot of dogs like him come into our rescue; dogs that are no longer “useful” who’ve just been thrown away.

We bring them here to more populated Loudoun County. We feed them and make them well. It doesn’t take long for an adopter to come along and see them for who they are as hounds make wonderful companions! Yes, we found Banjo a loving home, thanks to your donations.

Help us save more hounds like Banjo, this problem of abandoned hunting dogs isn’t going away. Please help us continue to save them by making a donation. We have saved approximately 1000 dogs to date, help us save more. Save the Tails is a 501c(3) nonprofit. Your donations are tax-deductible and eligible for employer matching programs.

🚨BREAKING NEWS 🚨 MAGNUS IS HOME‼️‼️I REPEAT- MAGNUS IS HOME‼️‼️ 🙌🏼🙏🏼❤️🤩😍 At 1 AM last night they heard howling outside their house and he was standing at the door. This is a example of why it is important to never give up and never assume as he was on the run for 10 days and not seen by anyone once! WHAT A MIRACLE ❤️🙏🏼‼️

DONATIONS NEEDED!

This is the story of Bella Mae. This sweet girl came to us from a backyard breeder, where she spent her life alone on a chain and forced to have multiple litters of puppies, all for the owner’s profit.

What is a “backyard breeder?” Backyard breeder refers to people that breed puppies, often on their properties, with little knowledge of emotional and physical safety procedures, and little concern for the overall wellbeing of the dogs bred and the puppies born under their care.

Bella Mae was a sweet, lonely girl before coming to us; deprived of the human attention she so desperately desired. Her purpose was solely to make her owner money, with little to no regard to her wellbeing.

When her owner discovered that breeding dogs was not the money maker they had expected, they were done with her.

We got her and her puppy out. We made sure they were healthy. We found them loving, forever homes. All thanks to your donations.

There are many more dogs like Bella Mae out there. Please help us continue to save them by making a donation. We have saved approximately 1000 dogs to date, help us save more. Save the Tails is a 501c(3) nonprofit. Your donations are tax-deductible and eligible for employer matching programs.

Reason to foster #1: Your kids WILL LOVE them! Fostering teaches kids very important lessons about kindness, and sets them up to become future advocates. As always, we work with you to find a dog who best suits your home. We can provide you with a pet friendly, child friendly, or even cat friendly dog.

Please foster.

Meet Ricky! He’s a 5 year old, 45 lb. super friendly boy. We are guessing he is a whippet-hound mix.

This sweet tail-wagger already knows sit, is very loving and friendly. Ricky came to us after living in a tiny outdoor enclosure so he would probably benefit from a doggy companion to play with and show him the ropes. He’s thrilled to be out now and loves attention. He’s very sweet, very quiet, good with other dogs.

Update from his foster: “We are still getting to know him (Ricky) he arrived Wednesday late afternoon, what we know is he’s sweet, quiet, friendly, good with dogs and cats, definitely hound in him, loves to sniff, with leash training could be good fast walker, hiker, jogging partner, good in crate, housebroken (pretty awesome considering he lived in outdoor chain link ken for 5 yrs!). He definitely has pep in his step, 5 is a great age! past teething, chewing, grabbing age. He gets zoomies and probably would walk as long as you will.”

Ricky is housebroken, neutered, UTD on vaccinations/preventatives, dewormed and microchipped.

HOW TO ADOPT DURING THE QUARANTINE: We cannot hold events currently but we are doing meet and greets and home visits if we receive an application that seems like a good fit.
