What are the hours for the park? Specifically on weekends? What time does it open? Thanks so much! Beautiful park.

The Piedmont Driving Club held a pre-show clinic at Morven Park on Sat. Everyone had a great time at the new facilities. The footing was PERFECTION even after 10" of recent rain. Equestrian events manager, Laura Doyle, is always the most gracious, generous hostess. Driving there feels like going to a friend's place-a friend with unimagineably splendid rings! Driving a carriage there feels like taking a magic carpet ride. I encourage everyone to do your horses and yourself a favor- COME TO MORVEN PARK!
Can't wait for Polo In the Park this Summer at Moven Park!

Christmas at Morven Mansion

Encompassing over 1,000 acres of gardens, fields, lawns and wooded areas, Morven Park hosts over 250,000 visitors each year who attend equestrian events, special activities, guided tours and educational programs.

Purchased in 1903 by Westmoreland and Marguerite Davis, Morven Park encompasses over 1,000 acres of gardens, fields, lawns and wooded areas as well as three museums. Honoring Mrs. Davis' vision, the site now hosts over 250,000 visitors each year who attend equestrian events, special activities, guided tours and educational programs. Open All Year, with the exception of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day Historic Gardens, Turkey Hill Farm, & Hiking Trails are open every day. Morven Park relies on donations from friends like you. Be a part of this special place by making a donation today at MorvenPark.org/DonateNow.

Operating as usual

On this October #MuseumMonday we address one of the most frequently asked questions we hear during tours--- “Is the mansion haunted?”.

While we love a good ghost story, staff have never found evidence that ghosts exist at Morven Park. However, since Loudoun County did not have its first hospital until 1912, births, illnesses, and death all occurred at home. The families residing at Morven Park during the 19th century had their fair share of sorrows, with both the unexpected deaths of children following illnesses and the expected passing of elderly family members. Their headstones can be found in the cemeteries of Leesburg, Alexandria, and Baltimore.

It's #ThrowbackThursday so we thought we'd pose this mystery for you all again! This spooky portrait is on display in the Davis Mansion dining room and honestly, we aren't sure who he is. Staff have made a few guesses, but we're curious what you think! Comment below if you have a guess about who he might be.

Have you ever wondered why we "carry a bride over the threshold"? With a seasonal nod to Halloween, our Events Department is here to explain the spooky and creepy origins behind some of the most beloved wedding traditions.

This one comes from the Dark Ages, when it was thought that brides were very susceptible to evil spirits and possession through the soles of their feet. It was also believed that the threshold of a door was where the line between our world and the underworld was thin, so to be carried over the threshold was to protect the bride from evil. That same line of reasoning is why people sprinkle salt at their doors to keep out the unwanted.

On this #WeddingWednesday we offer a bit of advice to fall brides and bridesmaids-- Don’t forget something to keep you warm as the temperature drops after sundown. We suggest a cashmere cardigan in the same color as your bridesmaids’ dresses or a vintage blazer to drape over your shoulders. What is your favorite way to keep warm when all dressed up?

PLEASE NOTE - The Winmill Carriage Museum and all entrances to Morven Park WILL BE CLOSED to the public this Friday-Sunday for our Fall Horse Trials event. Unfortunately we can not accommodate spectators or any recreation on Park grounds, so plan to enjoy the Park this afternoon or tomorrow, then come back to see us next week!

It's beginning to look a lot like ......

While spectators are not permitted this year, due to COVID-19 safety regulations, we will post pictures here and on the Morven Park International Equestrian Center page.

For this #MuseumMonday, take a look at this metal sculpture found in the Davis Mansion at Morven Park. Representing the Buddhist deity Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, its square face and body proportion suggests that the sculpture was casted sometime after the 17th century. The deity was widely popular among East Asian women due to its power of promising family health, producing sons and protecting women from childbirth. If you look closely, you can still see some remnants of the gilded overlay on the sculpture.

In 2020, open spaces for public use have never been more important. Morven Park has welcomed a substantial number of visitors to the Park during the pandemic, and we are happy to do our small part to provide a place of respite and relaxation for our community.

Here's your chance to do your part to keep this natural resource, which we all treasure, thriving and open to the public.

Our AnniversaTree campaign lets donors like you become involved in the ecology of the Park by making a gift that supports our trees and other plant life and keeps Morven Park open for public use. Donate today at MorvenPark.org/TREES.

Our Story

COVID-19 Update: The Pedestrian Entrance to the Park on Old Waterford Road is open daily from 9am-7pm. We recognize being outdoors in nature is a great way to get much-needed fresh air and exercise and have decided to allow limited access to Park grounds in the interest of public health. Morven Park gates and parking lots will remain closed due to the fact that we cannot regulate the number of vehicles/people visiting the Park at any given time and need to remain in compliance with the federal directive to discourage crowds and large groups from gathering. Please note, all restrooms and Park buildings remain closed.

Morven Park, Loudoun County's most important community resource for current and future generations, has something for everyone! This 1,000-acre oasis in the heart of the county is home to the world-renowned Morven Park International Equestrian Center, the premier Morven Park Athletic Field Complex, the historic Davis Mansion, and the unique Winmill Carriage Museum. The picturesque grounds are open to the public every day, while the mansion and museum tour hours vary with the seasons. Tour schedules and a calendar of equestrian, athletic, and special events can be found at MorvenPark.org.

Many visitors believe that Morven Park is a city or county resource, but it is actually a nonprofit that relies on support from people like you to remain open to the public. Support the Park at MorvenPark.org/DonateNow.
