Youth Patriotism Awards

Not sure if you are still tracking this page or not... the second requirement for Gold Citizenship and Gold Service are identical. I was about to go through these with another child and I'm not sure I mentioned that. When I completed with mine, we substituted a unique requirement... I think the first time we researched and presented on someone known for selfless service. Thought I'd throw that out there for folks completing all 4 awards to encourage more depth.
Do you still have any awards in stock?
Just want you to know this was a day etched into my 8 year old son's memory and ours for years to come. Thank you for promoting youth to know and understand what makes our country great. Really wish this program could continue. #pack500
I am so sorry to hear this, but totally understand it! I LOVE your program!!
Just found this amazing program and wanting to use it for an upcoming homeschool group I am mentoring. It is exactly what I have been looking for!!! Is this organization still active? I am a bit concerned because posts here and on the website are a year old. If it is not active I plan to use the outline from the website and purchase an award like a keychain, necklace, tie tac etc. for the youth instead. Has anyone else done this and if so any great places to get something like this?

What are the Youth Patriotism Awards? They were designed to lead youth in the United States to a greater understanding of the amazing legacy we were given by our founding fathers.

This legacy has afforded every person in the United States abounding Company promoting Heritage, Freedom, Service, and Citizenship for youth ages 6 to 18.

Youth Patriotism Awards’ mission is to enable youth of all ages to discover their own sense of Patriotism through activities and investigation, and by doing, grow into Participating Citizens.

Mission: Youth Patriotism Awards’ mission is to enable youth of all ages to discover their own sense of Patriotism through activities and investigation, and by doing, grow into Participating Citizens.

While I no longer operate Youth Patriotism Awards - I hope my words here are how we all approach this weekend.

May we pause... for more than just a heartbeat... to remember and truly appreciate the dedication, selflessness, and active citizenship that those that served and died for our country have demonstrated...

May we set aside our selfish needs and understand that "We the People" is the higher calling that we should all adopt... may we know that while we may have differences of opinions and points of view, we are all Americans and by that we have a life-long obligation to be Active, Servant Citizens and that we MUST join together to lead and create the greatest nation of freedom on the earth.

Our children are watching... how will they remember and judge us, the living? - may they see us being inspired to action by the amazing men and women that served and died for our country - may they be inspired as well... and together may we proudly and honorably work together to help those that need help, and strengthen our country in all that we do.

From Youth Patriotism Awards, have a happy and safe Memorial Day weekend... but we ask that you keep the example of our fallen in your mind and in your life... and together we will continue to strengthen "the great experiment" and grow as a people.... "... One Nation under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for All."

I miss this program - but life is moving faster and faster these days (raising 3 boys and a job that seems to be insatiable) -

I am spending today inventorying what I have left and will publish later today.

However- I found an early attempt by my manufacturer to produce my vision for the Silver Freedom Award - I wanted a pewter finish and blacking in the letters to make them pop - their first attempt was a bright silver. While still cool - not my vision.

I was thinking these would be a great Award for Youth as my inventory dwindles.

I am selling these for $2.50 each (qty 1-5 $3 shipping, and for 5+ shipping is $6).

Email [email protected] to reserve.

I have 192 of these as of this morning.

Youth Patriotism Award - Washington Leadership Award

I established this Award in 2014 - but I never really got the word out far and wide. The Award used to be a nomination based one -

Since YPA is working through existing stock - I thought I would make these available as well. You get a YPA certificate jacket, certificate, Washington Leadership medallion, and a matching lapel pin. These awards are a great way to recognize those leaders that have been an amazing example of Servant Citizenship.

Price is $40 (includes shipping).

Youth version has a red ribbon for the medallion to hang from.

[09/02/17]   Spent the morning trying to fill all the orders that I have.

My inventory is dwindling - didn't realize how sad this would make me.

If you have mailed an order or posted on the site that you want something - and you haven't heard from me - please message me so that I can be sure and set things aside for you.

[09/01/17]   I will be catching up on all correspondence and orders tomorrow morning - this evening is booked by youth activities - as usual these days.

I had completely forgotten about these - back in the beginning, my medals were hanging from pin back ribbons. I found through feedback that dual clutch back stood up to the rough treatment of young boys wearing their medals during Pack meeting wrestling matches.

I changed the backs of my medals - and had the leftover pin backs in a bag - for some craft I was one day going to do with my youth. Well - my boys are too big for that - but is there anybody that wants these for some craft or purpose?

I have 75 of them (all white) - if somebody would pay $10 (postage included) I will be glad to mail them to you. Just message me your mailing address.

So - starting my final inventory - I will take pictures of each and current quantity -

2013 Special Youth Patriotism Award patch (back in 2013 I wanted to create a new design each year - demand did not support)

Quantity on hand now (08/29) - 53
Price - $1.00 each (includes postage)

[08/27/17]   ANNOUNCEMENT - YPA Closing Down

Almost nine years ago, I started a quest to fulfill a promise that I made to 12 eight year old boys.

These young men took up a challenge to complete a United States Heritage award program - doing their best and learning something new along the way. Upon their completion, I attempted to order their medals, a reward for their dedication - only to find that the company selling these awards had gone out of business. Rather than disappoint these hard working young men, I took this setback as a challenge to create new, more challenging program - one with requirements that would allow youths and adults to work together to learn more about themselves, our country, our heritage, our freedom, our citizenship, and our obligation to serve others.

Several weeks of painstaking attention to the requirements and designing new awards later, on September 11, 2008, I launched the Youth Patriotism Awards program. My goal was to fashion requirements that would fit the needs of younger youths 6-10 year olds as well as the older youths, 11-18 year olds. The requirements were to challenge you to seek out answers, talk to others, interact with your community, and to perform all kinds of activities that would make Citizenship come alive. The medals were designed to be that “shiny object”, that reward that would entice youth to give their best. Over the almost nine years Youth Patriotism Awards has been in operation, I have had the honor of awarding over 5,300 awards to youth in 46 states. My program has been incorporated into all aged Scouting programs, American Heritage Girls, TraiL Life USA troops, social studies classes, homeschoolers, families, and clubs. Over the years, I have received letters and pictures highlighting the fun and inspiring times that adults and youth have had together learning more about all the things that makes servant citizens in America.

Youth Patriotism Awards has always been run by a single man, me, doing my best to provide a quality program and great support - all while working to fit the program’s time and financial requirements into a life of raising my own sons and making ends meet through my “other” mortgage paying job. Over the past 6 months, maintaining the program has become even more challenging. Increased time constraints of my job and my other family requirements have made keeping up with orders and answering questions almost impossible… cost increases in shipping and the manufacture of the medals have strained my family’s budget (medals must be purchased in large lots to keep them from being incredibly expensive). Youth Patriotism Awards was never profitable - but the amount of money required to keep medals in stock and the other increasing costs have become more than my personal budget can absorb.

I have struggled throughout this summer with a very hard decision - one that impacts a program that I have been very proud - but I do believe it is time to close down Youth Patriotism Awards. This decision has been an agonizing one - especially since I still fully believe in the mission and the fine work that so many youth and adults put into the program as they worked on the requirements.

I am gathering together all of my remaining awards - will fulfill the orders that I have received to date, substituting silver Heritage medals for Gold ones (I am out of stock). I will post on Facebook my remaining inventory and update numbers as they are depleted with future orders. All of my remaining stock of medals, medallions, lapel pins, challenge coins, and other items will be available for order but I do not intend to order any additional as they are exhausted. I will update the website but will keep the site up so as to allow the continued reference of the requirements. I hope that groups will still leverage the requirements even once the awards are sold out.

I apologize for the disappointment I know those that have supported me through the years are experiencing. I would love to be able to continue on - but until that lottery ticket pays off….

Thank you all for your support… your work with your youth… your dedication… but especially for being a great model of Servant Citizens.

Keep up that great work,
Yours in Citizenship,

Brian Kale

So - if our nation spent just 1% of the time we bash each other, degrade each other, hate each other, and strike out at each other on ACTUALLY DOING something to help another person - America could shake off this culture we are experiencing.

Too much destruction - too much intolerance (and I am speaking to a whole lot of different groups here) and too much blaming others - no individual is responsible for our current culture - it is because of everyone - just like no ONE individual can change it - it takes everyone. We all have a job to do - Take responsibility for yourself and your family - DO something for others - and make a POSITIVE difference.

Anybody can be mean or destructive or hateful. That comes way too easy - time to show some character and show your Best.

'The difference between the minimum and your BEST is character' - Brian Kale

#CharacterMeansYourBest

Never defeated until you DECIDE to stay down.

December 7, 1941 - ".. A date that will live in infamy"

Words that have echoed through the decades... and stirred the Greatest Generation to come together and with righteous might step forth and change the world... for the better.

For Pearl Harbor Day, it is very easy to simply tell ourselves that we were attacked.. that we fought back... and that we beat back an aggressor... and we should honor the sacrifice of those heroes...

But... take this opportunity to talk with your youth about how, when attacked, our nation puts down our petty internal differences, and as a large family, we stand shoulder to shoulder to change the future. Talk to your youth about their role as Active, Participating Citizens to stand with others and take hold of a better future today and tomorrow - in days of strife, in days of peace, and each day that we enjoy the freedoms that have been paid for by previous generations... . We have an obligation to those that served and defended us... and we have a responsibility to every citizen to improve our country by being part of solutions every single day.

A beautiful day in Northern Virginia - bright - just a few clouds - a light breeze - quite perfect actually - so very similar to a fateful day 15 years ago. A day that 'changed us'... it became a moment that many things have been blamed on... a moment that has changed how we do business, treat each other, look at our future, make decisions, and so much more....

We here at Youth Patriotism Awards would like to ask everyone to look at this day in yet another way... a point of reference - one that we use to talk with our youth, talk to them about our vision for the future, our responsibility as citizens, our need to develop into servant leaders.. and most importantly our absolute need to continue to develop as Americans - not different descriptors - Americans - people of character that will continue to build a nation that has been like no other... one of opportunity and freedom.

Make this day a point of reference - and map out a plan with your youth on how THEY and YOU will make a positive difference... we owe it to those that we remember - and we owe it to all that will never forget.

So tonight my program awarded its 5,000th award. www.youthpatriotism.org

We're coming up fast on our 8th Anniversary....

but the celebration that is even more important to us is that we have just packaged up our 5,000th award!

Don't forget the proper care and display for our nation's flag this weekend.

Our Flag -

On Memorial Day the flag is raised briskly to the top of the staff and then solemnly lowered to the half-staff position, where it remains only until noon. It is then raised to full-staff for the remainder of the day.

The half-staff position remembers the more than one million men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. At noon their memory is raised by the living, who resolve not to let their sacrifice be in vain, but to rise up in their stead and continue the fight for liberty and justice for all.

This was written several years ago - but the sentiment is timeless.

"... One Nation under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for All."

We, here at Youth Patriotism Awards, just had such an encourager, an adult mentor - a simple call to get awards for 12 hard working youth - but the encouragement of the call made all the difference.

Thank you

I posted this 3 years ago- it is SOOOOO true - and even more today.

Lincoln was correct - the spirit of Americans are strong... our ability to bind together against an external foe, awesome... our ressolve when challenged, unshakable... but left to our own, we seek often to squabble like siblings..... but through it all... we are blessed with amazing freedoms.

We recently received a really honest answer from a youth from Georgia. He was working on his Gold Citizenship Award and wrote the following about what the "Meaning of Citizenship" is:

"In my opinion, citizenship means to be active in your community and giving a positive influence to society. The actual definition is the state of being vested with the rights, privileges, and duties of a citizen. My definition is very similar to the actual definition because the actual definition implies the rights and duties of a citizen will have a good influence in the country."

It does our hearts good to hear this honest and straightforward definition... and we hope that this core belief will continue to grow in today's youth.

We remember the day... and we also rededicate our program to the goal of - "Enabling a new generation of active, servant citizens".

Youth Patriotism asks that you remember... and join our program in educating and enabling our youth - we have been honored to be part of your mission and promise to continue on into our 8th year of service.

Today in History - Man lands on the Moon... imagine what else dedicated servant, citizens could accomplish

When Neil Armstrong took this photo of me during our #Apollo11 moon landing it was very spur of the moment. He said "stop right there" and I turned and he snapped the photo. It's called the "Visor shot" because you can see the LM, Neil and my shadow in the reflection of the visor. I have 3 words for why this photo is so great: LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!
