Climate change has been studied at the University of Colorado Boulder before it even had a name. The university’s Mountain Research Station is literally on top of the research when it comes to how our environment is evolving over time. The station is home to many other research divisions including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, who have been sampling greenhouse gases here since 1967. Much of the research is lead by fellows and professors in ecology and geography.

The Wildwood Casino in Cripple Creek is officially the highest casino in the world at 9,593 feet above sea level! To capitalize on the proclamation, Wildwood is constructing a 104-room hotel next door to the casino. High rollers can take their chances on the floor today and begin booking rooms in 2020.

The business-friendly atmosphere of Denver is something the tech industry is finding difficult to ignore. In 2018, over 7,000 new tech jobs were brought to the city from companies wanting to take advantage of the highly educated workforce and corporate-friendly tax rates. Denver is also home to several large companies like Amazon, Facebook, SendGrid, and more. Other benefits like quality transportation and fantastic work-life balance really make Denver irresistible to companies looking to establish their footing in the Mile High City.

Taking a hike through the beauty of Colorado just got a lot easier. Everyone who loves the outdoors can download the new free Colorado Trail Explorer app to plan their next adventure. Thanks to a partnership between Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the Colorado Department of Natural Resources, there are over 39,000 miles of trails included in the app. The trails featured in the app cover mountain biking, hiking, motorized recreation, and equestrian riding.

There are two farmers’ markets that have yet to open and should be on your list to visit once they do. Highlands Square Farmers’ Market is perfect for brunch lovers who still need to get some shopping done. This market is focused on featuring items from small farms around Colorado and opens June 2. The brand new RiNo Fresh Market begins on June 15 and will satisfy any market-hopper as well as kids who can take advantage of nearby Boxyard Park.

Colorado is home to seven of the country’s 330 operating drive-in movie theatres. The varying locations around the state have different operating seasons, days, and times, but all provide the same nostalgia. Aside from upgrades to digital and 4K projectors, the set-up remains the same as it was when many of these first opened decades ago. This summer, plan a night to view a movie in your car from one of these drive-ins: Comanche Drive-In, Star Drive-In Theatre, 88 Drive-In Theatre, Denver Mart Drive-In, Holiday Twin Drive-In, Tru-Vu Drive-In, and Mesa Drive-In.

Colorado is well known for its beautiful, yet rugged, landscapes that make it a popular camping destination. Echo Canyon Campground is taking advantage of a new trend called glamping, or “glamorous camping.” Campers, or glampers in this case, can reserve a luxury tent that’s complete with electricity, queen bed, and WiFi. For an even more comfortable stay, visitors can reserve a cabin that features additional amenities like an indoor bathroom and fireplace.

The Colorado Symphony is pushing its musical offerings to the limit with some unexpected partnerships. This past February, the Colorado Symphony collaborated with rock band The Flaming Lips to perform to a wildly enthusiastic and sold out crowd. These partnerships are meant to draw younger audiences to the symphony, and it’s working. Future collaborations on the schedule include Tenacious D (July 25) and “Weird” Al Yankovic (August 1).

Travelers who pass through DIA are noticing its amazing service record, and some recent awards prove it. The Skytrax World Airport Awards just bestowed three honors on our beloved airport. DIA was voted #1 Best Regional Airport in North America and #7 of the World’s Best Regional Airports. The staff earned a place at #3 for Best Airport Staff in North America through a vote that included travelers from over 100 countries.

The Denver workforce keeps growing and growing. In the recent LinkedIn Workforce Report, the study shows that workers are migrating to Denver at higher rates than most other metro areas. The majority of workers are coming from San Francisco, New York, and Chicago, seemingly as companies continue to choose the city for additional headquarters. The incoming workforce of transplants is adding to the diversity of the city and providing a high need for homes.

Jon Schlegel is about to shake things up in Denver! The man behind the Snooze restaurants is about to launch Denver’s first Italian Wine Park. Attimo will include a family play area and Italian-style piazza that will transform the half-block he owns on Larimer Street. Wine lovers can taste Attimo at some restaurants and purchase it in wine shops around Denver.

Moving to Colorado is an excellent idea, but the moving itself can be stressful. If you’re planning to move to Colorado, here are some tips to keep in mind so stress levels remain low:

Foodies come together at food festivals around the country, and Colorado is no exception. This month, there are several rolling through town. Literally, the Truck Stop Rally will hit the brakes in Denver on May 18 and feature tons of food trucks. Other food festivals that should be on your calendar are Chicken Fight, Boulder Creek Festival, and Taste of Durango.

If you thought reclining and heated seats are the best thing in terms of viewing movies, keep reading! A company called The Bed Cinema will be popping up around the country, including some dates in Denver. Movie-goers will be able to enjoy hit movies under the stars while laying on one of many beds laid out in front of the screen. You can leave your blanket at home because each double bed comes complete with a blanket, pillows, and bedside light!

There’s no rest for the “Wicked” fans who want to see the Broadway hit for $25. The Denver Performing Arts Complex is once again employing its successful lottery system to make shows more affordable to theatre-goers. Hopeful ticket winners can arrive 2.5 hours before showtime to enter their name into the drawing to get up to 2 discounted tickets for that performance. “Wicked” opens May 8 at the Buell Theatre and runs through June 9.

Any Vegans living in or visiting Denver the week of May 13-19 are in for a delicious treat! VegFest Colorado and Veganizer Denver are hosting the first Vegan Restaurant Week, and the list of restaurants participating might surprise you. Pizzerias, burger spots, and several food trucks are stepping up their game to prove they can provide quality vegan options on their menus during this revolutionary week. Once menus are announced, every type of foodie will be anxious to try the creations that will be highlighted.

Because you loved her, Celine Dion is breaking away from her Vegas residency and hitting the road! Dion’s long-awaited tour includes a stop at Denver’s Pepsi Center on March 24, 2020. A new day really has come for Dion because she’ll include new songs from her newest album expected to drop at the end of the year. Coloradans will be welcoming this legendary voice back to Denver for the first time since 2009!

One company coming to Colorado is dedicated to trash pickup on an intergalactic level. Astroscale, a company from Singapore, has chosen to have their U.S. headquarters call the Centennial State home. Astroscale is still searching for the perfect city in Colorado to begin building their U.S. base. They promise to bring over 50 jobs with six-figure salaries to help them on their mission to diminish the amount of trash floating around in the cosmos.

Denver and Colorado Springs might be in the top 3 for Best Places to Live, but one Denver neighborhood has earned top honors from a recent Niche ranking. Holly Hills was rated the Best Place to Live by the website for its walkability, diversity, public schools, and cost of living. It also received first place for “best place to raise a family” and “best place to retire.” This is great news for people of all ages who are thinking about relocating to Colorado!

You don’t need to travel far to see something new and different in Colorado. Our beautiful state offers plenty of day trips for everyone to enjoy.
