Southview 412 Student Ministry

6th-12th Grade ministry at Southview Community Church.

In the heart of a student, we want to incite wonder about who God is in such a way that compels him or her to discover who they are and their passion for influencing others. Four Twelve is designed to leave middle school and high school teens with the lasting understanding that I am created to pursue an authentic relationship with my Creator, I belong to Jesus Christ and define who I am by what He says, and I exist every day to demonstrate God's love to a broken world.

More often than not, we hate on ourselves more than we hate on anyone else. And when we make mistakes, when we fail, and when we don’t measure up, the self-hate just gets worse. Thankfully, God offers us a different way forward. Yesterday, we learned to embrace the grace He offers us in all situations, and realized we can put a stop to the hate. What’s one practical way you can remind yourself of some truths about God this week? #HatersSeries

[04/17/18]   Parenting isn’t formulaic. If you combine A+B, you don’t always get C. That’s the way algebra works—not parenting. http://theparentcue.org/parenting-isnt-a-formula/

We all tend to look at people and make some assumptions about who they are. But when we make these assumptions, we risk missing out on the bigger story of
who someone actually is. Yesterday, we looked at one of the Bible’s most unlikely heroes, we’ll discover that our judgments and assumptions are nothing compared to God’s plan and power. How does assuming the best about people change the way you treat them? #HatersSeries

No matter how hard we try, there’s something in each of us that tends to hate on the flaws and failures of other people. And that’s not necessarily a good thing because, at the end of the day, nobody likes a hater. Yesterday, we looked at the way Jesus responded to a group of particularly harsh haters, we’ll see that all of us have the chance to drop the judgment and replace it with grace. What’s one thing you can do to consistently drop the rock of judgment this week? #HatersSeries

Hey parents! This week we’re starting a new series with your students about judgment. We all have a tendency to judge and hate on others, but we often make those calls without all the facts. In other words, we can’t see the big picture. If we could, it’d probably be a lot easier to move from hating to understanding. Maybe that’s why the Bible makes it clear that when it comes to judgment, that call is God’s to make. We can’t wait to start this conversation with your students!

If the story of Easter feels like a distant thing that’s hard to believe, then you’re not alone. As we look to understand how we can believe the Easter story is more than just a story, we’ll also come to understand why the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus truly matters in our lives today. In your own words, what do you think it means to trust Jesus? #BackToLifeSeries

Sometimes life can feel like a movie gone wrong. You hope for a happy ending, but then the credits roll and the story is over. Believe it or not, the Easter story in the Bible played out just like that. Yesterday, we saw how the story continued to unfold even when everyone thought it was over, we’ll see that—because of Jesus—we can have hope that our story isn’t over, either. What does it look like to invite Jesus into a hopeless situation? #BackToLifeSeries

Hey parents! We’re so excited to be starting a new series with your student this week all about Easter. In this series, students will discover that Jesus is a God who isn’t distant and hasn’t abandoned us. In fact, He’s always working to bring our stories back to life.

Breaking up is hard to do. And whether you’re in a relationship now or will be in one in the future, a breakup is almost inevitable at some point in the future. And while all breakups are difficult, they don’t have to cause permanent damage. Yesterday, we discovered that valuing others and ourselves at all times is the key to going through a breakup that doesn’t break you. But rather than let our feelings and emotions on the inside dictate our actions on the outside, what if you had the power to choose?
