Listful Thinkers

Organize your life with lists. It's easier to keep up with life than catch up with life.

[09/14/18]   Very anxiety producing....yet, the reality is, we never know which day will be our last day. Whether by illness, natural disaster or accident, we need to be prepared. If we procrastinate with these preparations, it might be too late. I can help you make 20 lists regarding what your family should know. Make this a priority!!

[07/04/18]   Credit card fraud is such a hassle to deal with. Unfortunately, we are all at risk. What are your credit cards linked to? I have a list for each credit card. For example, maybe you make automatic payments for your EZ pass or Amazon Prime with your visa card. If something happens to your visa card, would you know what payments won't be made? Make a copy of each credit card that you use (front and back) and make a list of all automatic payments associated with that card. This will make a frustrating experience just a bit easier.

[03/29/18]   What a hassle! Yet, you could have avoided it. Expiration dates are often neglected. When does your driver's license expire? When does your passport expire? What month does your car need to be inspected? I suggest keeping calendars for future years. i.e. make a list of what needs to be done in 2019, 2020.....Are you checking your driver's license now? You're welcome.

Plumber? Roofer? Handyman? Electrician? Painter?
Every time that you hire a service company, I recommend that you add it to a list of "Service Companies Hired".
Jot down the type of service, company, phone number, date of service and any appropriate comments. i.e. Were you pleased with the service? Would you hire them again? Were they on time? Expensive? Professional? That way, when you need the same sort of service years later, you'll know who to hire or who not to hire. You can also jot down positive or negative information regarding service companies that you hear from others that you trust. Sounds time consuming? Nope. It's not. It takes one minute, and will save you so much time later when you need to hire someone quickly.

[11/12/17]   Don't panic about Thanksgiving! Don't look at it as one huge overwhelming stressful project. Make a guestlist. Make a menu. Make a shopping list. Schedule which day you''ll shop and put it on your calendar. Make a list of what you can do one week ahead, 3 days before, 2 days before, the day before, on Thanksgiving, and last minute. Do as much as possible in advance. Go down the menu, and figure out when each dish should be prepared. The day before, you can set the table and pick out and label serving dishes and serving utensils. Make sure you run the dishwasher and unload it before you need it on Thanksgiving. Don't forget things like beverages, ice, centerpiece, candles, salt and pepper. Basically, turn Thanksgiving into a bunch of little manageable projects....not one huge project. Mostly, relax and enjoy. Let me know if I can help you figure out your Thanksgiving preparation homework.

[09/30/17]   If you want your thoughts and ideas to survive.....write them down.

[07/27/17]   Approximately 10% of Americans have unclaimed money sitting with state and federal treasurers. Could you be one of them? That's a total of about $42 billion of unclaimed money in the U.S. Why? Mostly, because people are careless and unorganized. If people kept better records, perhaps things would not be overlooked. Lists. I highly recommend them. PM me if you want to know how to check if you have unclaimed $ out there, or if you want help making sure this sort of carelessness does not happen to you or your loved ones.

[06/07/17]   So here's a short list of......lists.
64 lists are included in Listful Thinking, used to keep track of all the details in your busy life. Yet, here are some suggested lists to add......
A list of all of your insurance policies on 1 page.
Info regarding any other real estate that you own.
What "extras" do you have in your home and where are they?
i.e. extra roof shingles, floor tiles, paint .
What bills do you pay that are automatically deducted? If something happens to that account/credit card, you'll need to know which bills won't be paid!
Info regarding entry to your home....if something happens to you, would your loved ones know how to use the security system, code to the garage, where are extra keys etc...
A list of important documents, with location and how to access each one.
And one more for the summer....
A list of things needed in a tick removal kit, to keep on hand and in the car.

Reminder.....you don't need to fill out every list every day. Just determine what happened today that you'll need to remember in the future and write it down on the appropriate list. It takes a minuscule amount of time daily as opposed to a monumental amount of time trying to figure it out later.

What should you be keeping track of?
What happened today that you'll need to remember in the future?
Just because you have a will, doesn't mean that you're done getting organized. Be prepared. Contact me. I make it simple.

[02/22/17]   Seriously, are you prepared?
Sure. You've got all of your important documents in a safe. Well, who has access to the code /key needed to open it?
What if something happens to that person? Where is that code/key?
Or, maybe you have your important documents at a bank. Who has access to that? What bank?
What if something happens to that person.
Life is unpredictable. Don't leave a mess for your loved ones to clean up. I can help to make catastrophic situations easier. There are billions of dollars of unclaimed money out there, because people aren't organized and details are forgotten. Don't let that happen to you!

[01/05/17]   January is Get Organized Month. Gift certificates for my organizing services are available in any increments. [09/04/16]   Ease the back to school chaos:

1. Keep a running list of completed parent tasks. This makes it easy to keep track of what's been done and what's left to do.
i.e. submit emergency/health forms, pay for school directory, pay PTA dues, lunch money put in online account, ordered yearbook, register/payment for a club etc....

2. Keep a folder for general school info.
i.e. bus info, attendance info, completed parent tasks list etc...

3. As schoolwork comes home, immediately either save it as a keepsake, or place it in a bin. Perhaps the student will need the papers to study from at a later date. So, save the recycling until the end of the school year.

4. Keep extra school supplies in a bin or other designated area at home. i.e. #2 pencils, pens, highlighters, folders, composition book, poster board, index cards etc... This will avoid late night emergency visits to the store.

5. For EACH student, keep a folder for EACH extracurricular activity. i.e. for a basketball league, have a folder for the team roster, game schedule, contact info etc... Put necessary info on your calendar.

6. Print out the school calendar and put necessary dates on your calendar.

7. Are there activities that reoccur on certain days of the week? i.e. need to bring sports equipment Mondays, and musical instrument on Thursdays . Make a list of what's needed on specific days. Pack the night before.

8. Have an organized and wonderful school year!!

[06/16/16]   Want to make more money? Then decrease the mental and physical clutter in your life. Are you overwhelmed with paper piles, other clutter, and the stress of a busy life? If so, this may cause you to be less focused, less productive, and less efficient. It can even lead to depression. If life is organized then you feel more in control. If you get rid of your paper piles and get your life in order, imagine how much more productive you could be. The more productive and focused you are, the more revenue you'll make. Don't let clutter stop you from living the life that you want to lead. Need help getting started?

[05/22/16]   Is your to do list crazy, overwhelming, and out of control?
Prioritize! What's the value in getting it done? What's the risk if I don't? Are you in the right place, have the right tool, or have the right people to help carry out the task? How much time do you have available? What's your energy level? Is it urgent? Can any tasks be delegated? Each day, make a daily to do list from your massive overwhelming list. The smaller daily list should be much more manageable, realistic, and much less stressful.

[03/16/16]   Save time, money, and aggravation. If you have home renovations done, make a list to keep track of the extra pieces. For example, if you have tile installed, write the brand, color, and note if you have extras, and where they are located.
If you have painting done, write the brand and color of paint, what room it was used for, and if you have extra paint, where is it located. Keep this list in your file with other home maintenance records.

[03/01/16]   Helpful hint of the day:
Have a calendar for the future.
Use it to list things to remember way down the road.
For example, check your driver's license. It has an expiration date. Will you remember to have it renewed before it expires? Yes ! You'll remember because it will be on your calendar for the future. When is your car inspection due? Put that on the calendar for the future, now, so you won't forget later. i just use a generic page with all 12 months. Write the year at the top. Whenever an action has an expiration date, add it to your calendar.

[02/17/16]   Frustrations in life can be made just a little bit easier. We had the big blizzard in January. That's when it started to rain in my kitchen, thanks to ice dams. What a hassle it is to get that repaired. Yet, it was so incredibly helpful to have my lists to help me out. There was the list of all of the previous roof work. There was the list of service companies that I have used complete with positive/negative comments. There was a list of all of my insurance policies. There was a list of warranty information regarding previous renovations. Yes. There was even a record of the name of the paint color chosen 6 years ago. Thank you "Listful Thinking" for all of your help daily, through good times and through bad times.

[02/03/16]   Why make lists?????
1. Lists bring order to chaos.
2. Lists help us to remember things. Lists are external memory aids.
3. Most lists are finite.
4. Lists can be meaningful.
5. Lists can be any length.
6. Lists relieve stress.
7. Lists can help people stay focused.
8. Lists can prevent procrastination.
9. Lists are simple to read and write.
10. Lists provide instant gratification.
11. Lists are motivational tools: the affirmation that you are making progress, by crossing things off of a list will help to motivate you to keep up your productivity rather than feel overwhelmed.
12. Lists enable us to digest information in little bits rather than all at once.
13. Lists organize information.
14. Lists can prioritize.
15. Lists reinforce info. After looking at a list repeatedly, it helps you to remember what's on the list.
16. Lists are easy to share.
17. Lists can be fun and entertaining. i.e. top 10 lists.
18. Lists can be a good way to collect information.
19. Lists save time. 15 minutes of planning time can save an hour of execution time.
20. Lists can be about........anything!

So, make lists, decrease stress, be organized and enjoy having lots more time on your hands.

[01/15/16]   The best cure for paper clutter is prevention. Each and every day, file that paper, pay that bill, make that phone call. Don't let the paper pile up. Seriously, if you do a few minutes of organizing per day, you will never get that mountain of papers that will be too overwhelming to face.

[01/04/16]   One of the most common new year's resolutions is to get organized. Using my book, "Listful Thinking" and/or using my organizing services, will ensure that 2016 will be the year to truly get and stay organized. I'll show you how. Why wait? Contact me.

[12/27/15]   Perhaps you've been on vacation. Or, perhaps you've been busy with holiday festivities. Now perhaps you've got a huge pile of mail to deal with, and your to- do list is getting out of control. Let me know if you need help getting life back on track. Start the new year organized and leave the chaos back in 2015.
