Updates from the Coronado Athletic Office

Last Friday, CCSD gave all schools a tentative start date for summer workouts of July 6th, this will be for school-sponsored preseason workouts of fall HS sports and cheer only. Winter & spring sports, band & dance, along with club sports, are still denied access to CCSD facilities. In order to meet the July 6th start date, there are a long list of requirements that coaches, athletes, admin, custodians and the athletic office must follow. As of this morning, we have not been given this list of requirements yet. As soon as we get the list, we will begin working on them. While many schools are advertising the July 6th start date, no one knows the protocols that must be followed for workouts to happen on that date. it is unlikely that we will have students working out that day. We hope to have athletes on campus some day that week, and will slowly increase the number of fall athletes on campus over a few day period.

At this point in time, no decision has been made in regards to fall sports participation or competition. There are endless rumors, but we have officially been told very little. Last week we were told by CCSD Athletics that they are preparing for a normal fall sports season until they are told otherwise by the NIAA, Governor's Office or CCSD Superintendent. The superintendent's reopening plan released yesterday made no mention of sports or activities.

20-21 Register My Athlete is available and families can start their registrations. None of these registrations are being approved until we have confirmation of a fall sports season, but those that have been completed will be approved quickly when the time comes.

A new sports physical for the 20-21 school year is not required as long as the athlete had a valid 19-20 HS sports physical uploaded and approved last year. Incoming freshman will need a 20-21 sports physical, but returning athletes will only need to complete a health questionnaire. Athletes coming from out of state or a different school can bring their 19-20 approved HS sports physical with them. The health questionnaires will be available once we have athletes returning to campus.

With the issues surrounding Q4 and Sem2 grades in the Spring of 2020, the NIAA has waived the 2.0+ GPA requirement for Fall 2020 athletes. All athletes will be academically eligible to start the Fall 2020 season regardless of their Spring 2020 Semester 2 GPA. Once an athlete makes a sports team, normal three week grade checks will be in place during their season.

Finally, we ask that you are patient as we work through the different protocols from the superintendent, CCSD Athletics, the NIAA, the Governor's Office, the CDC, and the NFHS. Information from these groups is sporadic, changes periodically and often contradicts each other. We will share what we can when we can, and our main goal is to safely get your student-athlete onto the field, course, court, mat, track, etc...

If you have any questions, or need clarification, please email CHS Athletic Director Tyrel Cooper at [email protected]. Do not call the athletic office at this time, there is no one there to answer phones or check voice mails until later this summer.

If you have questions related to soccer, please email [email protected]

We are getting closer to being able to begin the 2020 season. We will update here when we have more information. If all goes well, we will begin in July.

Coronado High School

We are extremely proud and grateful to once again be named one of the top High Schools in Nevada and Las Vegas by U.S. News and World Report. Thank you to our outstanding staff, students, and community for helping us achieve this accomplishment!

Congrats Caroline!

Congratulations to Heat 02/01 ECNL II player Caroline Eisenberg on her commitment to Farmingdale State College, a Division III program that is located in Farmingdale, New York. Caroline's, hard work and determination has paid off with this fantastic opportunity to not only play at a high level of college soccer and earn her college degree from a great academic institution, but also the chance to be a college student at a university located a short distance from New York City. These opportunities don't come around too often and we are so excited for Caroline and all that she is going to experience over the next several years. We know Caroline is going to thrive in both the athletic and academic environments she is going to be in, we know the Rams have added a player that is going to impact their program immediately. A pacy, dynamic winger who thrives in attacking scenarios when her team is going to goal, Caroline is going to score plenty of goals and pick up a lot of assists during her career. She has the ability to shoot from distance and put herself in good positions inside the 18 yard box, she has a knack to score goals in big moments. She also has the ability to whip in dangerous crosses into the box from the wide channel, services that her teammates enjoy getting on the end of. Throughout this season, Caroline has developed a much clearer understanding of the tactical side of the game and how to position herself as a winger, which has enabled her to be on the ball a lot more but to also impact the game defensively as well. An exceptional teammate who enjoys to compete, we know Caroline will influence the Rams program in a very positive way. We look forward to following her over the next several years and wish her all the best as she moves into the college world. For information on the program visit: @FarmStateRams #WeAreHeat #HeatFC

UNLV women’s soccer announces four signings for the class of 2020

Book, a Las Vegas native, was a four-year starter at keeper at Coronado High School in Henderson under coach Dana Neel. During her four seasons, the Cougars went 81-9-14 and captured three conference championships, two regional championship, a regional runner-up finish and most recently a second-place finish in the state tournament as a senior this past fall. In 2019, she earned her league’s goalkeeper of the year award and was named to the All-Southern Nevada, All-Region and Las Vegas Review-Journal (LVRJ) All Star teams at the conclusion of the season. Book played club ball for the Players Elite FC in Las Vegas the last four years, helping them to a pair of state championships, while also serving as the goalkeeper for Nevada’s Olympic Development Program team from 2015 through 2019. Book excelled academically as the four-time scholar-athlete award recipient also earned an AP Academy Scholar award and was part of Nevada All-State Academic team. UNLV women's soccer's Jenny Ruiz-Williams has signed four to her first UNLV recruiting class, the first-year head coach announced Tuesday.

We missed the signing ceremony for our seniors while we were up north but we will exhibit our seniors at the next ceremony.
Congratulations Alexis Hale!

Congratulations to Heat FC 02/01 ECNL II player Alexis Hale on her 2020 commitment to Southwest Baptist University, an NCAA Division II program located in Bolivar, Missouri. Alexis will be joining her longtime Heat teammate and friend, Ally Lieber at SBU for this upcoming Fall 2020 season. Alexis is expected to impact the program immediately at the winger/forward position, as the Southwest Baptist staff believes she brings what they have been missing a bit to their program, an incredibly athletic and pacy attacking minded player that goes to goal. Whether getting in behind back lines on breakaways, shooting from distance, or getting quality/dangerous crosses into the box, Alexis has the mentality to go at the opposing teams defenders at full speed and score goals. She is completely "all in" with everything she does on the soccer field and that attitude and competitive spirit will be instantly appreciated by everyone involved with the SBU program. Extremely fit and hard working, Alexis also puts the work in defensively which makes her the complete package to be an impact player at the college level. We know Alexis is going to finish out her youth/Heat career on a high note through the remainder of this current season and we truly wish her all the best as she moves on to her collegiate experiences next Fall. We look forward to watching her Bearcats career progress over the next several years. For more information on the program visit: #HeatFC #WeAreHeat @sbubearcats

It was not the ending that we had hoped for but it sure was a dream season filled with triumphs and memories that will be remembered and retold for a lifetime. We will hang two banners in the gym to remind us of our journey to becoming Desert Region Champions and State Runner-Up.
The Cougars were defeated in the State Championship game by Faith Lutheran 0-1.
Thank you for the support this season. These are some amazing girls!

In route to becoming State Champions! Game starts at 11am in Reno.

WINNER WINNER! The Semi Final is behind us with a 1-0 victory over Centennial. Tomorrow is the State Championship game vs Faith Lutheran at 11 AM.
