Revived Recovery Update
January 13-January 19
Riding a bike, sitting behind the steering wheel of a truck and driving down a gravel road, or looking someone in the eye and confidently shaking hands with them may seem second nature to us, but for some of the men at Revived Recovery it is a huge milestone to be achieved. Due to different life experiences, some of which were very painful, some of the men have lacked the confidence to launch out and learn these basic skills. It has been our joy this week to demonstrate the love of God as we have helped them overcome their fears and launch out into these very foundational skills.
We have found that as the men gain confidence in the smaller and temporal things of life that it gives them the confidence to embrace the bigger and more eternal things of life. This week one young man changed a tire for the first time and learned how to operate a log splitter. One of them learned how to make pancakes and serve others at the table. They are learning how to nurture as they have cared for an injured cow and are feeding goats, donkeys, and chickens from their hands. They are learning responsibility by getting up in the night and keeping wood in the wood stove.
They felt a sense of community this week as we split wood together with the Bebouts, and they experienced the warmth of hospitality as Kathy Bebout served us the finest in homemade glazed donuts and offered us some delicious homemade chili to warm us up.
We have learned about the needs of those who are deaf as we had the privilege of briefly sharing our lives with a wonderful man who is deaf. He taught us so much about responsibility and treating others the same regardless of their disability. He shared with us about cooking, cleaning, and shopping. He helped us organize our pantry and make shopping lists. He taught us how to find humor even in the most unpleasant jobs and showed us how to make the best spaghetti with meatballs and eggplant parmesan we have ever had.
Such lessons coupled with the eternal, life-changing Word of God and prayer are transforming the lives of these men who, through God grace, will impact their community for God’s glory!
The guys made homemade eggplant parmesan tonight. #revivedrecovery

[12/25/13] The Christmas message is that there is hope for a ruined humanity--hope of pardon, hope of peace with God, hope of glory--because at the Father's will Jesus became poor, and was born in a stable so that thirty years later He might hang on a cross. J.I. Packer
