Our remembrance of 9/11 this year will be different than in years past. This year, we encourage you to take the opportunity for silent contemplation to honor the lives lost to this tragedy. A national moment of silence is observed to correspond with the attacks, beginning at 8:46 a.m. (ET), the time the first plane, American Airlines Flight 11, struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.
Additionally, you can join VOICES of September 11th and the 9/11 Memorial staff for a 45-minute virtual tour of the 9/11 Memorial plaza. This is a wonderful opportunity for those who have not visited the Memorial to experience it, while virtually taking in the panoramic views of the rebuilt World Trade Center.
This event is free but you must register here to attend: https://www.voices2020symposium.org/register

Today we celebrate Juneteenth, honoring the first steps toward racial equality in our great nation. Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating African American freedom. While the Emancipation Proclamation, a declaration freeing all slaves, went into effect on January 1, 1863, it wasn't until June 19, 1865, the resistance was overpowered and the remaining enslaved were freed.
We recognize Juneteenth today as a way to celebrate and rejoice. People across countries, people of all races, nationalities, and religions are coming together to acknowledge a period in American history that shaped who we are as a society today. It is important that we reflect deeply on this painful past and honor those ancestors so we can continue to strive for equality, respect, love for all of humanity. When we are willing to learn from the experiences of others, we can make a lasting and significant change in our community ❤️
