Fort Smith 2020 Yearbook

Just love 💚

Jen's Kitty Rehab

Time for some math.

Not my favorite subject (the only thing I want to count is jelly bean toes on kittens) but I hope this helps put things in perspective.

Jen’s Kitty Rehab has to turn down on average 100 cats a week.

100 cats x 52 weeks = 5,200 cats.

Routine vetting at the lowest cost (just altering and vaccinations) is $55.
This does not include any other care such as injuries, additional vetting, food, litter, or anything else.

5,200 cats x $55 = $286,000

It would take at the bare minimum over a quarter of a million dollars to help all the cats that we have to turn away.

Now, add in the fact that the cats also like to eat, have a litter box and somewhere safe to sleep.
Each cat stays a different amount of time but assuming that each cat uses $20 in supplies (an extremely conservative number) that adds an additional cost.

5,200 x $20= $104,000

Now, let’s add that together.

$286,000 + $104,000 = $390,000

That’s a big number.

I wish we could help every cat.
I wish we didn’t have to turn anybody away.

Cat rescue is expensive.
Injured cats. Sick cats. Momma kitties with kittens.

It all adds up so fast.

Please do your part.

Spay and neuter your pets.

Everybody can do something.

Jen's Kitty Rehab

Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA)
Claim Filing System Is Now Available

The Arkansas Division of Workforce Services has announced that the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) claim filing system for workers who have lost employment due to COVID-19 is now available.

Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) is a program under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act of 2020 that provides temporary income to eligible individuals who became unemployed as a result of the novel COVID-19 pandemic and are either self-employed, do not have sufficient work history to be eligible for a claim, or have exhausted other forms of unemployment insurance benefits. It is funded by the federal government, not by state unemployment taxes paid by employers.

Click here: https://pua.arkansas.gov/home to file online 7 days a week between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.

To qualify for greater than the minimum PUA weekly benefit amount of $133, you will need to provide proof of wages and earning information for 2019, which may include:

• 2019 Federal Tax Return
• 1099 Forms for 2019 - Miscellaneous Income
• W-2 Form for 2019

Visit ARunemployment.com for the latest updates and information.

Due to the weather forecast the next 14 days we have to change our movie times.
This is out of our hands and we hope everyone who has a reservation can still make it. For those that do not have a reservation, show up before 715pm and we'll do our best to get you in.
A special thank you to JOE'S Grill & Cantina for providing $1 tacos tomorrow for our Cinco de Mayo movie Nacho Libre.

Due to the weather forecast in the near future, all upcoming movies will be scheduled 48 hours in advance and we will no longer be doing reservations. It will be FIRST COME FIRST SERVED to this FREE community event. It is the fairest international policy that has been used since the beginning of time.

Everyone who has been contacted by us with a confirmation will KEEP their reservations!

Arkansas House of Representatives

With recent legislative approval, $55 million of federal funds provided to Arkansas through the CARES Act is being directed to the Arkansas Ready for Business Grant Program.

The program will provide direct grants to businesses for expenses associated with ensuring the health and safety of employees and patrons. AEDC will begin accepting applications this Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:00am until 6:00pm.

Visit https://www.arkansasedc.com/covid19 to learn information about the grant program guidelines and to apply.

State Representative Jay Richardson - District 78

Just wonderful.

When you look out your window, what do you see? We see people coming together, not giving up, and for as bleak as it sometimes feels, we see people smiling. For today is another day, and make no mistake, Fort Smith is a strong community. And of everybody who makes us "us", one of them is YOU. We support YOU, the people of Fort Smith. The Barber and the baker. The entrepreneur and the educator. The nonprofits, the for profits, elected officials and diligent staff. YOU are who make us smile. Join us in BELIEVING in Fort Smith. And if you can, please, support us supporting you. Stay safe. Be well. And be kind. Fort Smith Strong, River Valley Proud.
