Serving Artist, Audience and Community Artist Audience & Community Live! began over a decade ago as the 801 Concert Series, founded by locals Dick Renko and John McIntosh, in the same great space where we are today.

The name was changed to Second Street Live! in 2007 when the organization expanded into a much larger venue on Second Street. The Second Street Live! building was later purchased by the University of Arkansas Fort Smith and today operates as The Blue Lion. Since we are no longer located on Second Street, the name was recently changed again, this time to Artist, Audience & Community Live! to tie in directly with our mission. The mission of Artist, Audience & Community Live! is to provide excellence and diversity in the performing and visual arts for the citizens and visitors of the Arkansas River Valley. By serving artists, audience, and community we improve our quality of place by leaving a legacy of arts and culture for many generations to come. Artists love to appear and exhibit in galleries and theaters where their needs have been anticipated and met. We serve Audiences by presenting an eclectic mix of musical artists recognized nationally and internationally in genres that include World Music, Jazz, Americana, Blues, Bluegrass, Folk, as well as Spoken Word, Children’s and Family programming. We serve the Community by sharing this talent beyond the stage at our theater. Our ongoing educational and outreach programs span generations – from elementary school to senior citizens. Artist, Audience & Community Live! offers a non–smoking intimate theater atmosphere, as well as an affordable and accessible unique experience and cultural value for the community that is typically only available in larger cities. is a 501c3 non-profit organization.

Janis Ian

Another AAC Live alum!! Kathy Mattea!

"Better Times Will Come" greets an old friend! Back in the mid-80's, when I couldn't get a song covered for love or money, Kathy Mattea cut "Every Love". It was a shot in the arm for me, and once I'd moved to Nashville I looked her up. We became fast friends, giggle buddies, swapping stories about our experiences as women and performers. She's smart, she's talented, and her artistry is honest to a fault - she dared to follow up one of her gigantic hit records with a ballad caled "Where've You Been", one of the best songs and performances I've ever heard. Nobody thought it would work, but it earned her a Grammy Award despite the nay sayers. Kathy actually learned how to make a video for this project, put her heart and soul into it, and I love her dearly for it. Make your own versions and remember – we don't sing to be famous. We sing because it makes our hearts feel good. Join us at https://tinyurl.com/jifree . Art is for everyone! #ARTSAVES

Janis Ian

Our friend and AAC Live alum Janis Ian(At Seventeen) has been sharing versions of her song “Better Times Will Come” and here is one by another friend, Fort Smith native Jonathan Karrant.

We start this "Better Times Will Come" week with Jonathan Karrant, who comes by way of my friend Diane Schuur (yes, I know her personally! Stay tuned....). Like Diane, he has marvelous taste in musicians (as witness the keyboard work from Jason Corpuz here), and this simple no-frills "lockdown take" is a notable departure from his trio and big band work (check his Youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/jonathankarrant for some great live pieces). [10/02/19]   Join us on October 10th at 7:30 for Trout Fishing in America Live! As we kick off our 20th consecutive season of great concerts, 4-time Grammy nominated, Trout Fishing in America is celebrating their 40th year as a duo! We have featured them many times over the years and they never fail to delight! Keith and Ezra are part of Fort Smith history. Their music defies genre, providing the audience their signature mixture of rock and roll, blues, funk, jazzy swing, bluegrass and even a polka. Trout knows how to move an audience, taking them on a journey through old favorites and newer releases all backed by a level of musicianship and showmanship that indicate these guys are still at the top of their game. “Trout Fishing in America, Live at The Epic Theater” is the 26th Trout album released on their Trout Records label.

As reflected in our name, our mission is to serve Artist, Audience and Community. Artists love to appear in theaters where their needs have been anticipated and met. We serve Audiences by presenting an eclectic mix of music from nationally and internationally recognized artists.
