Last week I was bummed because I was sick and doing a workout would have been a HUGE mistake. Good news is I feel loads better and survived last night's workout!! Yay!
If you are looking for a gym that is supportive and always makes working out fun then this is the gym for you! I love everyone at the gym and how we all cheer each other on. Best coaches and makes working out so much more enjoyable!!

🫂 Members celebrated our 2 year anniversary last night with some beautiful fireworks, quality time with friends and family, and delicious food.

💪🏼 This morning, we had a Team 1776 workout, with the team collectively completing 1,776 reps of a variety of movements.

🐈‍⬛ THANK YOU to everyone who came out for 🐱 Kitten Yoga 🧘🏼 this past weekend. We raised funds to help offset costs during a busy kitten season for the local organization, Friends of Felines in Calvert County.

💕 Friends of Felines’ focus is on rescuing free roaming or abandoned cats and placing them in managed colonies or permanent homes.

💉 All of the cats trapped or rescued are tested for feline leukemia and aids. They are spayed or neutered and given all of their shots, along with micro- chipping for later identification. The feral cats that are returned to managed colonies are ear-tipped so Animal Control personnel know they have been vetted.

🏡 The cats that can be socialized are placed in 100% volunteer foster homes. The foster families create a nurturing environment for each cat/kitten until they are adopted. Semi-domestic cats are placed in barn homes throughout Maryland and Virginia.

🏞 FOF also maintains a cat Sanctuary in Prince Frederick. Those few trapped and rescued cats that cannot be socialized and cannot be returned to their original dangerous location are relocated to the sanctuary, where they are fed and maintained by volunteers.

🍃 We’ve had a monthly Committed Club since we first opened here at CrossFit Panthera in July 2019* and emails to members when they hit 50, 100, 250, and 500 class check-ins.

🎨 It wasn’t until COVID hit last summer that we finally got our check-in tree painted up on the wall and then made (printed, cut out, and laminated) the leaves this past weekend.

🌳 So now our tree is up-to-date with members having 50 class check-ins on the lower branches, followed by 100, then 250, and space at the top for someone else to join Crystal in the 500 club.

5️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ We have 2 members at 487 class check-ins right now - who will reach 500 first? (Tereka, Eric L.) Then we have 4 others that should make it by the end of this summer. (Lynn, Jen H., Joe B., Amanda)

2️⃣5️⃣0️⃣ Three of our ladies are over 200, so they’re knocking on 250’s door. (Lauren, Jen C., and Natasha)

1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ & 5️⃣0️⃣ And we should have some folks hitting 50 and 100 any day now.

🤔 What motivates YOU to workout each day?

*Did you know that many of our members have been CrossFitting since our previous co-owned facility across the street opened in September 2016? We restarted our class check-ins at this facility (new name, new solo owner, new start), but some of these folks have well over 1,000 classes over the many years they’ve been doing CrossFit with owner and coach, Amanda!

🤰 We posted for our members that the workout was called “Don’t Drop the Baby” and it would be 15 minutes long for Alicia’s soon-to-arrive baby girl.

👶🏻 What members didn’t know was that everyone was invited to join in the baby-wearing for the day with a medicine ball wrapped around their belly.

🍼 This is our fitness community. This is what we are about: supporting each other, no matter if you workout at 6AM, 6PM, or somewhere in the middle.

🙃 We start together, we finish together, and we cheer each other on along the way. And we try to have a little bit of fun doing it!

💝 We can’t wait to meet the newest gym baby when she arrives and will continue to support and be motivated by her [email protected]$s mom in the meantime.

MASKS OPTIONAL

😷➡️➡️➡️😁 The Maryland mask mandate has been lifted for individuals who are fully vaccinated, and we now have one new rule at the facility regarding masks: DON’T BE A MASK-HOLE!

⚖️ Masks are OPTIONAL.
The CDC still recommends that those who are unvaccinated wear a mask, regardless of whether or not you’ve had COVID. If you’re more comfortable wearing a mask, wear it. We won’t judge you either way. That means no comments on whether someone is or is not wearing a mask.

🤒 Not feeling well?
PLEASE keep your sickness at home (that’s nothing new).

🤧 Allegies getting you? Maybe consider putting that mask on, just in case ...

How Murph Became the Most Legendary Fitness Challenge Ever

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND, 2007. Joshua Appel, M.D., now chief of emergency medicine for the Southern Arizona Veterans Administration Health Care System, was a medical resident in Albany, New York, when he had an idea. The holiday had become a thing of beers and barbecues and bargains on mattresses and refrigerators. All of which are great, no doubt. But Dr. Appel wanted to do something to remind himself and a few willing others of the day’s purpose. A way to contemplate with mind and body those who’d laid down their lives for us.

Dr. Appel had recently begun training at CrossFit Albany. “And I heard about this hero workout of the day called Murph,” he says. Hero WODs are dedicated to the memory of a military member or first responder killed in the line of duty. “And I was like, ‘I wonder if that’s the same Murph.’ ”

It was one of CrossFit’s hardest workouts, a prolonged thresher that blended endurance and calisthenics with a whole lot of time in your head, beating back millions of years of human wiring telling you to slow down or tap out. Went like this: You’d run one mile; do 100 pullups, 200 pushups, and 300 squats; then run one more mile. All as fast as possible while wearing a weight vest or body armor.
