High School graduation there & school reunion Mass there next year.
Anne, Chris, Jan, the lightening bolt will go right through that beautiful roof straight to us.

Curbed's places of worship series continues with the famous St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York, built in 1879 and still glorious following an extensive restoration!

[12/29/13]   New website up:

[04/01/13]   I feel as though the practice of law is changing - with the advent of downloadable internet forms, attorneys practicing 'virtual law' through Skype, and the digitization of all pleadings. At the same time, dockets appear to be crammed with pro se litigants who don't quite know what they are doing (and new lawyers are unemployed; the field is saturated). At the same time, the Supreme Court of Texas has promulgated uniform forms - Divorce Set One (note the 'One" - more to come & I'm sure there'll be forms in other disciplines).
The practice of law is changing, rapidly... we have to accept, incorporate and plan for those changes which are positive (and identify and disclaim the negative).
To a member such as I, we, as a profession, do not appear to be planning for these changes. I think there should be better access to justice for those who are in dire need (now, that's often the 'middle class'). Also, Legal Aid is overwhelmed - we need innovative ideas as to how to resolve that problem, especially as it affects the Courts. When I look at Craigslist, I see the same non-lawyers, for months and months, advertising that they will do all legal work ('you just file the forms').
Our profession now includes computer programs with 'all necessary forms and advice', downloadable single forms, and 'paralegals' who may not have graduated high school ...

I am voting for Steve Fischer because I believe he'll address those issues. He acknowledges a problem, communicates it to all, and solicits input to relay to those who, ultimately, will make a decision. I know he's done quite a lot of pro bono work (I think serving on the Bar is the ultimate pro bono).
Those of us on the pages restricted to attorneys, created by Steve Fischer (Family Law, Probate and Estates, Make the State Bar Relevant), have seen his frequent posts in the past regarding health insurance for members - finding a solution to that issue has been a frequent topic on his part (and I know he is very active on that Committee). Steve has kept Bar members informed of all the problems encountered in getting group health insurance - he accepts all questions, answers directly and communicates back to the membership. He has invited members to email him, if they do not wish to ask a question openly.
He responds. He has frequently defended the Bar's decisions and position on issues, and has commended members of the Board of Directors.
Additionally, he has championed more affordable CLE, scholarships for attorneys who cannot afford the full CLE cost, and he has generated excellent communication amongst attorneys.
Steve Fischer's FB pages, restricted to attorneys, has created an open line of communication amongst lawyers across Texas - for fast information dissemination, for referrals, for mentoring amongst the membership, and for responding to issues (he appears to have an innate knack for generating discussion and possible solutions.)

I just want to vote for the best person for the job. I believe that to be Steve Fischer.
Steve Fischer has been speaking to the issues which concern many of us - whether solo attorneys or big- firm attorneys (many sole practitioners were, once, big-firm attorneys).

If your income is too high, you may be 'Priority 7 or 8', where you are responsible for a copay. There is a Discharge Review Appeal Board where vets can petition, requesting that 'less than honorable' discharges be upgraded (which will give them access to VA benefits).

[07/27/11]   We purchase so much insurance - for cars, house, boat, life, appliances ... The most affordable & easiest insurance we forget - a siimple Durable Power of Attorney (Financial) & a Power of Attorney (Medical). These two important insurance/disability forms are often ignored.
Guardianships are so expensive - they're lawyer-intensive and require continuous court hearings. Please do these forms to protect yourself.

[07/27/11]   Re SB 785 (new Family Code 161.005): Men have until 8/31/ 2012 to file requesting a termination of paternity, based on non-parentage, without having to prove when he learned of the facts which led him to believe he is not Dad. After 8/31/12, he can only file within one year of learning of the facts re non-parentage.

[07/27/11]   SB 785 passed: allows for paternity testing upon 'Dad's' Petition, as long as Paty was adjudicated (or Acknowledgment of Paternity signed) without DNA testing.
This is a huge change. If Dad's not bio, current child support and medical support terminate, & though 'Dad' still will owe arrears, he's not subject to Contempt filing.
