Light For Hope Candles

Handmade lotion candles bringing warmth to your home and hope to shelter animals. Proceeds are donated to PAWS Animal Shelter.

One day I made way too many candles... There were so many candles. The apartment I share with my loving boyfriend began to look like a sacrificial scene (his words, not mine). Once I started making candles, I made them in batches, and always used a new scented oil. Then one day, while cuddling with my darling rescue kitten, I found myself talking to her (yes, I talk to my cat -- who doesn't?!) and saying something along the lines of, "You're the bestest kitty in the world, I am so glad I adopted you. And I'm so glad PAWS was able to take such good care of you so that you and I could find each other." In that moment, it all kind of just came together. I decided to make candles, sell them, and donate my proceeds to PAWS so that other shelter animals in need might find their forever homes. As my candle making evolved, I found more creative ways to produce candles. I focused on sourcing only the best and trustworthy products because that's all I would ever put on my own skin. I found recycled hemp string to wrap my candles with, and recycled, raw, unbleached parchment paper to wrap them in. I realized that I've never bought a candle to keep the packaging materials or the silly lids. These items just ended up in the trash -- pretty but wasteful. So I did away with the fancy paper, dyes, and ribbons. I also decided not to stick a label on the candle itself because while it adds to my marketing efforts, it takes away from the beauty and serenity of a simple candle. My final touch became using recycled wine bottles for the candles themselves. I bought a bottle cutter and started practicing. I broke a lot of bottles. I burned myself a bunch of times. I got really pissed, swore this whole idea wasn’t worth it, and stormed out of my kitchen one afternoon. 30 bottles later, I got a handle on it and now all my candles are hand-poured into a beautiful glass vessel as unique as the person whose home it finds its way to. And that’s the story. Just a girl who had a lot of empty wine bottles, loved making candles, and wanted to give back to the organization that made it possible for me and my puuurfect catpanion to meet.

Sebastian might definitely be keeping me from getting much work done with these candles... But who could honestly blame him Sebastian really likes the way the Sage and Pomegranate Lotion Candle smells! My little bundle of inspiration keeping me company tonight while I'm up to some candle crafts.
