Let's hope that Ballroom Dance Charleston can re-open to our members in fall.

Dear fellow BDC Club members, As your elected Board member and appointed Membership Director, I am looking forward to when we can re-open the dance club and once again enjoy social dancing. Perhaps mixers and partner rotations may be tentatively conducted, but we will have to rely on advisements from the state's public health authorities. Please continue to check the Ballroom Dance Charleston website for any new updates as we move into the month of May. Stay home and practice social distancing when venturing out into the public space, wear a facial mask among others when shopping, wash your hands, and wipe down commonly touched home surfaces with approved disinfectants. Stay safe and keep healthy!

Once the club re-opens when the pandemic ends in South Carolina, maybe we can all dance an East Coast swing to some classic old songs when we get back together!

The Summerville Journal Scene newspaper, Wednesday, March 13, mentioned Ballroom Dance Charleston in its article about the recent ARK fund raiser performance. Sarah Sharpe and Shi Johnson instructed and danced with local celebrities.

Join us for an awesome and intensive West Coast Swing workshop! Beginners through Advanced swing dancers welcome! $20 for BDC members/$25 for non-BDC members. The workshop will last 2.5 hours and include a short break. Meet Alyssa! Alyssa is an accomplished dancer with many years of experience teaching both solo and partner dance. Her love of the art took root at the age of 4 when she began training in the classical styles of Ballet, Tap, and Jazz. At age 13 she started to lead classes and discovered an aptitude for teaching dance as well. In the early 2000's, Alyssa stumbled upon her first Swing dance- Lindy Hop. Quickly gaining an appreciation for the fun and complexity of social dance, she began seeking instruction in many forms of partner dance including Lindy Hop, Charleston, Balboa, Blues, and West Coast Swing. She has gained extensive knowledge by traveling and seeking instruction from notable teachers in each of these styles. A seasoned instructor and competitor, Alyssa is known for her warm humor and fun-loving presence on the dance floor. Her goal is to enable students to enjoy dancing and develop skills by emphasizing clear communication between lead and follow. Alyssa believes that establishing great connection and building a solid foundation is key to social dance success! “I have taught for national events like Swing Fling and DC Swing Experience. I am on staff to teach next month at MADjam and The Boston Tea Party. I own my studio in York, PA. Additionally I have taught at Gas House Dance Hall in PA, at Hollywood Ballroom in Washington DC, and in Virginia for Charlottesville Swing Dance Society and Rocktown Rocks.”

[07/02/20] UDPATE FROM BDC BOARD:
Delayed Soft Opening: The significant rise in Covid-19 cases in Charleston County and Mayor Tecklenberg’s Ordinace requiring face masks be worn inside public buildings has resulted in the BDC Board decision to delay our soft opening.
The studio is beautiful and just waiting for all of us to return. As soon as safe, we promise a Gala welcome home party. Until then, stay safe, healthy and resilient. We will get through this together.

Salsa and Sweets showcase is next weekend (December 15th) at BDC!

Salsa and Sweets is NEXT WEEKEND at Ballroom Dance Charleston! You are in for a treat, we have an amazing evening lined up!

The event kicks off with an intro Salsa lesson at 6:30 pm, followed by performances at 7 pm.

After the performances, stay and social dance until 10:30 pm.

Tickets are $20 general admission, $25 VIP reserved front row (limited amount of these left!) and can be purchased on Venmo (@holycitysalsa) or at the studio.
