Many of the church families in Santa Rosa have lost their homes as
well and will need immediate help. A number of key leaders in
the churches and our church lost homes. So it seems like leadership
was hit particularly hard in our C&MA churches.
Rest and less stress for everyone. Sleep deprivation has hit everyone
hard, so rest is incredibly important.
Safe breathing. It's smoky and who knows what's in the smoke. There
are various sensitivities to the smoke (asthma, age).
Pray that people will grieve in a healthy way. Blessed are those who
mourn, for they will be comforted.
gofundme.com We have all said or heard in one place or time “there’s no place like home”… and how true that statement is. That feeling when you walk through the doors only to be greeted by a family member or pet to the aroma of a fresh made meal. Plopping down on your favorite chair or couch, curling up in a...
Yesterday Pastor Destined shared this letter he had written:
Dear Faith Family,
I can never fully express my love and appreciation for you all. When Mary and I arrived in Brentwood, we were a young family still trying to figure out life, family, and ministry. From day one, Brentwood Neighborhood Church has felt like home to us. From day one we have felt loved and deeply cared for. We could not have asked for a better Faith Family.
Part of our journey together has been me maturing and growing up as a husband, father, and pastor, and there have been bumps and bruises along the way. I’ve made poor decisions, and I’ve rushed decisions, all with a heart of love towards the church. Even though my intentions were truly good, I still made mistakes and I unintentionally hurt people and ministries. I want to say from the bottom of my heart that I am so very sorry. You, the people, are who truly matter here at BNC.
You may be wondering why this is happening now. As we started pushing forward with the building project and clarifying our vision, some existing hurts and mistrusts surfaced. They've been around for awhile, but we haven't always been aware of them. We believe the Lord has brought this to our attention as part of the process of unification as we move forward. This may be a process that includes you, or you may know someone else who has expressed hurts, and you can pass this information on to him or her.
I understand that those of you who are hurt may not direct those feelings toward me, but rather toward the leadership of the church. As the Head Pastor of BNC, I want to take full responsibility. We’ve made some changes in leadership style in an effort to prevent some of the previous mistakes. I’d like to share some of these changes with you. I’m requesting those of you who have been hurt to trust us even though we may not deserve it. I’m asking that you trust that our desire is to bring reconciliation to relationships, and give you hope that we have learned from our mistakes.
The Elders and I want to hear from you. We want to hear how you’ve been hurt and we want to bring healing and hope to you through sharing truth and striving toward reconciliation. The Elders and I want to spend time with you. Time to really listen to you, allow you to vent, share, and talk about any frustrations and hurts you have experienced. We are calling it “Truth & Reconciliation”.
We’ve set aside the evening of Friday, September 29 and all day Saturday, September 30th. We’re going to schedule 30 minute sessions, but if you feel you’d like to spend more time, you can schedule two 30-minute appointments. You may schedule this time on our website at www.brentwoodnc.org/truthandreconciliation or call the church office at 634-1415 to sign-up.
I encourage you to consider taking this time to meet with us, even though I know it may be uncomfortable to bring up old hurts, or difficult to discuss current ones. I trust God is in this process and know He will walk us each through the emotions that will come with sharing and restoring relationships.
