Saving the Child Care Industry Will Require Dedicated Federal Relief - Child Care Relief

The American economy cannot recover if the child care industry fails. We're urging Rep. Jamie Raskin, Chris Van Hollen, and Senator Ben Cardin to #SaveChildCare and ensure the #COVID19 recovery package includes a child care stabilization fund.

https://childcarerelief.org/congress/saving-the-child-care-industry-will-require-dedicated-federal-relief/

How will you help the fight to #SaveChildCare?

Call a senator https://childcarerelief.quorum.us/campaign/26421/

Email a senator https://childcarerelief.quorum.us/campaign/26422/

Tweet a senator (MD) @SenatorCardin @ChrisVanHollen @SenatorSusanLee

Tell them that you want the Senate to prioritize childcare in the recovery package

We must ensure Congress provides dedicated funding to stabilize the child care industry while there's still time. Child care providers need help in the immediate term to help them to reopen, including accessing health and safety materials, and developing and implementing new protocols. We need help in the mid-term related to paying for rent and operational and staffing costs and accessing technical assistance for funding and other supports. Providers also need help in the long-term with accounting for lost income due to low registration numbers, investing in sustainable early care and education career pathways for providers, and stronger infrastructure to ensure the sector’s resilience during challenging times.

As educators we need to understand our role in the system and really ask ourselves what we're willing to do to make sure our students from marginalized communities will be successful in our care as well as our school community. #FundChildCare #WondersWhy

Hey parents! Join us tonight at 8 PM for another parent workshop with Child Development Consultants.

Tonight's topic: "Family Harmony and Supporting Siblings- Strategies from the Friendship Lady" with Amy Freedman, MA, CCC-SLP. "The Friendship Lady" shares strategies to help families work and play together. How do you engineer the environment to support and strengthen family ties? What books can you read to continue to develop sibling bonds? What can you do when your children need a break?

https://wonderslearning.org/elsummer2020/#parentworkshops

Today we commemorate the birth of our country, the official severing of ties between the original 13 colonies and the rule of Great Britain.

Well Family: Raising an Anti-Racist Kid

Roberta Zeff of the New York Times dropped a few gems for us last week in Well Family: Raising an Anti-Racist Kid. https://nyti.ms/3inix6E

Here are a few resources mentioned in the article:

Resources linked in the article: How to raise a kid to be an anti-racist - https://nyti.ms/2Vy8ZvN

What Is Freedom? Teaching Kids Philosophy in a Pandemic - https://nyti.ms/2NO9rBU

messaging-custom-newsletters.nytimes.com This week my colleague Tara Parker-Pope spoke with experts on how to raise a kid to be an anti-racist. That term, largely associated with the work of Ibram X. Kendi, refers to taking a more active role than simply not being a racist — it means actively trying to dismantle racism.

As parents return to the workplace, focus is on child care providers

Though many childcare programs are reopening, like our Edgemoor location, we're not operating anywhere near capacity due to new regulations, hesitation from parents, and more factors.

Today's Bethesda Beat has an article about child care reopening and our very own Miciel DeMarco was quoted.

bethesdamagazine.com Centers reopening, hoping business will come back

Don't read too much into the image itself but the context. Giving ultimatums to your child while eating is not always the answer. Compromise and conversation can go a long way while teaching your child to make healthier food choices.

Love this. Balancing the nutritional composition of our kids' meals isn't the only goal! We also need to teach kids how to have a healthy, trusting relationship with food, and how to participate in the culture of family mealtimes. (Bonus: teaching these lessons often end up being LESS stress and effort for us parents than strongly focusing on food.)

Thanks for the visual Kids Eat in Color!

CPR/First-Aid re-certifications are currently being fulfilled virtually for our staff. Each session is one-on-one to maintain social distancing.

While social distancing, children may get frustrated by the lack of physical connections (hugs, hand-holding, high fives, etc.).

This greeting board depicts great ways your child can say hi to their teachers and friends while maintaining social distancing.
