4615 Theatre Company

4615 Theatre produces a provocative blend of classical and contemporary work, inspiring audiences to explore the resonances of storytelling passed down through the ages, while also training young, emerging artists to realize their unique theatrical voices

4615 Theatre Company was conceived in the summer of 2013, when a group of ambitious young actors and designers created an inventive staging of John Webster’s The Duchess of Malfi. Led by Artistic Director Jordan Friend, the play was set in multiple rooms and outdoor areas of a suburban home. Since then, the group has become a “nomadic” theater company, producing site-specific shows and shows set in more traditional theatre spaces. Since its inception, 4615 has produced a mix of classical and contemporary plays including one musical and one world premiere. In 2015, the company performed its first classical repertory, alternating Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night and John Ford’s ‘Tis Pity She’s a Whore both performed with the same company of 15 actors. 4615 is committed to supporting emerging young artists in a collaborative and inventive environment. Our productions aim to merge a rigorous emphasis on text and storytelling with creative staging to create highly immersive experiences.

Congratulations to our brand new resident artists Reginald Richard, Jon Jon Johnson, and Ezra Tozian, plus resident director Stevie Zimmerman! Head over to www.4615theatre.com/people to meet our whole team, and check out the all new Resident Artists page to meet our company members.

We are honored to announce the cast of our next production, the World Premiere of resident artist Gregory Keng Strasser's THE INFINITE TALES (Dec 6-29). This ensemble of nine exceptional actors will transport you to a world of ancient myths within myths within myths, in 4615's first ever epic fantasy. Featuring live music, puppetry and stunningly beautiful language, this is a feast for the senses you won't want to miss.

Forced from their homeland and cursed to live life as swans for 900 years, four children face insurmountable odds of storms, wars, and the encroaching menace of time as they cling to the hope that one day they shall return to their home. But as their landscape shifts and their tribe disappears, they face a new obstacle: where will they go? THE INFINITE TALES is an adaptation of several Irish myths that traverses space and time, painting the diaspora in new light.

*4615 Resident Artist

We are beyond excited to finally announce 4615 SEASON THREE: MODERN MYTHS. This sprawling, ambitious year of theatre propels the company to new artistic frontiers, with two world premieres, a DC Premiere, and a modern classic. All four plays explore the act of mythologizing; how we tell and re-tell our own stories, and choose what we remember.
Check out the video to meet the extraordinary artists leading the way, and read about the full season below.

By Lucy Prebble
Directed by Jordan Friend
DC Premiere
August 9-September 1, 2019
Witness the true rise and fall of America’s most infamous company in this blisteringly funny satire of modern greed. Lucy Prebble’s epic dark comedy is an abursd crime saga of Shakesperean proportions, complete with poetic profanity, musical numbers, and even a few velociraptors.

By Harold Pinter
Directed by Stevie Zimmerman
August 16-September 8, 2019
4615’s acclaimed resident director Stevie Zimmerman returns to helm Pinter’s masterpiece, in which an extramarital affair is told from all three sides, and in reverse. Beginning in 1977 and ending in 1968, BETRAYAL makes us question the very nature of love and honesty, constantly making us doubt what we’ve just seen.

Adapted and Directed by Gregory Keng Strasser
*World Premiere*
December 6-29, 2019
Gregory Keng Strasser brings his unique blend of lyrical text and astonishing spectacle to 4615 with his original adaptation of Irish mythology. This spellbinding fantasy follows the journey of four children who have been cursed, transformed into swans and banished from their homes for 900 years. Their struggle to return explores resonances with the Irish diaspora, as well as with all people who search for a place to call home.

A City-Wide Theatrical Event
By Renee Calarco
*World Premiere*
March 13-April 5, 2020
From acclaimed playwright Renee Calarco comes a theatrical event that leaps beyond the theatre. The year is 2040, and an audience is gathered for the dedication of a museum; one built to commemorate an unforeseen American tragedy some time between now and then. When the ceremony is sent spiraling off course, a generation of survivors must reckon with how we choose to remember and retell our own history. Much more than just a play, MUSEUM 2040 is a sprawling, multi-location experience, featuring fully realized exhibits, pop-up performances at satellite venues, and a massive supporting multimedia world.
