Welcome to Bethesda Shoe and Luggage Repair
Strolling through the heart of downtown Bethesda you are drawn in by the red and white storefront of Bethesda Shoe & Luggage Repair at the corner of Del Ray Avenue and Old Georgetown Road. Stepping in, you instantly sense that many of the customers are long time regulars, and the family atmosphere doesn't stop there either. It extends behind the counter, where owner John Shafakian and his young apprentice Peter Mesrobian work with an efficiency borne out of the father-son dynamic they have developed over their years of producing high-quality, detailed work together. Master shoe and luggage repairman John Shafakian has been in the business of mending peoples' much-loved shoes, bags and luggage for over four decades, operating out of a store in Vienna, Virginia, until he branched out and opened Bethesda Shoe & Luggage Repair in 1986. Peter Mesrobian brings with him the experience of having long-practiced as a young man alongside his father at the family business in his native Ethiopia. John and Peter are proud to have Bethesda Shoe & Luggage Repair voted among ten of Washington area's best in "Step Above: 10 Great Shoe-Repair Shops" by Washingtonian Magazine.

[12/31/13] If you are considering investing in luggage with wheels on it, you need to weigh maneuverability versus weight. While the wheels make the bag significantly heavier and reduce the amount of space you have to work with, it also makes it much easier to handle your luggage.
[12/26/13] When shopping for the right pair of shoes, it is important to keep many things in mind. Examining the shoe's anatomy, rigidity, toe spring, toe box, and insoles are some of the best ways to determine whether a pair of shoes is right for you.
[12/24/13] If you want to add some style and function to a pair of boots, having a professional install a zipper is a great choice. Zippers are not only fashionable, but also make boots much easier to get on and off.

[11/26/13] We can handle all kinds of luggage repairs from broken handles to re-stitching. If you have a trip coming up sooner we can talk with you about options on getting your bags repaired.
[11/21/13] While some damage to luggage is purely aesthetic, other issues can render your bags useless. When you're more concerned about function than style, we may be able to help fix your bag.
[11/19/13] When you're packing your clothes, tie something bright around your suitcase handle. It will be a lot easier to spot amongst all the luggage at the suitcase carousel.
[11/14/13] Did you know that your shoe size changes throughout the day while you walk, sit, or run? It's best to purchase shoes later in the day as your feet tend to increase in size as the day goes on.
[11/12/13] Every pair of feet is different. As a result, the same-size shoe fits people differently; however, customized shoes are specifically made for each person's set of feet.
[11/07/13] Did you know that making custom shoes requires very specific measurements and skills? After you choose or create your shoe style, a professional shoemaker makes molds that embody your feet, produce a pattern reflecting your exact measurements, stitch the leather together, and fit the upper portion of the shoes to the curvature of your arches.
[11/05/13] It's important to remember that many issues with luggage can start out as aesthetic before they render the bags useless. Keeping your luggage in good repair will ensure it always functions as well as it looks.
[10/31/13] If easy maneuverability is a priority to you, then a four-wheeled suitcase is going to be your best bet. The benefit of this particular model is that it doesn't put any weight on your arms whether you are pushing or pulling.
[10/29/13] We understand that getting ready to go out of town can add several errands to your already lengthy list. If there's simply no time for you to repair your own luggage, drop it off with us.

[10/10/13] If you spent a great deal of time picking out your new luggage set, chances are good that you'd like it to continue looking good after your travels. We're always here to keep your luggage up to your standards.
[10/08/13] While rolling suitcases offer a great deal of space, it's important to note that it's usually not as spacious as a duffel bag. However, rolling suitcases make maneuvering around the airport or wherever you are traveling much easier.
[10/03/13] If you like to keep your suitcase fairly organized, then a rolling suitcase is going to be your best bet. Look for a model that features additional interior and exterior compartments to give you plenty of places to put things.
[10/01/13] We understand that buying luggage isn't just about functionality; it's partially about appearance. If you don't want to shop for new stylish luggage, we may be able to repair the set you've already selected.
[09/26/13] Did you know that buying luggage new isn't your only option? If you're working on a limited travel budget, it may be less expensive to purchase used luggage from someone and have us repair it.
[09/24/13] Not sure whether to invest in a traditional wheeled suitcase or spinner luggage (with four multidirectional wheels)? One thing to keep in mind is the amount of space you will need, as with spinners the wheels can be quite heavy and end up reducing the amount of space in the case itself.
