Hey Ron Klain, check this out. The Tracy's Kids team at Inova Fairfax Children's Hospital made a Covid-19 piñata for stressed out medical teams. A smashing time (sorry) was had by all!!!!

Makimg Butter Slime with Tracy!
Here’s a tutorial on making Tracy’s favorite slime! Much of the time art is about creating something that expresses an important idea or feeling—we plan it out and work hard to do our best. But art can also be about the process—just the fun of making it. The kids at Clinic taught me that slime is a fun way to make yourself a homemade toy!

Woodland Adventure Game by Tracy Councill
A couple of weeks ago I put up a post about the history of the game Candyland. I was inspired to create a game of my own, which I based on pretty much any Saturday or summer day of my childhood. As I was coloring the game board, I made a little coloring video for you to enjoy!

How to Make a Cardboard Luge!
Tracy’s art at home project today was to learn how to make a video tutorial for you guys. Here it is, something to do with all your empty toilet paper rolls!!

How to make a Sock Bunny!
Alexandra Xifaras shows us how to use a sock and some simple materials to make a cute little bunny friend. If you have trouble like I do with one sock of a pair going missing in the wash, maybe you can make use of some of those mismatched socks!

One of the Tracy's Kids art therapy interns created this video tutorial about making a poem collage. She gives us a little background about how we can choose to stay positive in stressful times, and what a difference that can make to how we feel. Let us know if you try this idea! NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital

One of our kids was inspired by our shadow puppet tutorial to create her own. It has lots of characters and action, so the whole family got involved in making the video. Here's the first few minutes of her show!

Oobleck!
Today’s art-to-go post resides on the border of art and play. Experimenting with the properties of materials—liquid, solid, fluid, resistant, wet, dry, etc.—is part of how any artist masters a technique. It’s also part of what makes art so engaging, especially for young children. The artist does something and waits to see its effect, continues along that path or tries another strategy to achieve the desired effect. This video illustrates the special properties of “Oobleck,” a mysterious non-Newtonian fluid that can act as both a solid and a liquid. In a separate post I will give you instructions on how to make it at home. Enjoy!

The Fast Flying Fairy and the Unicorn
As of today, Tracy continues to help patients at the hospital while practicing distancing and extra disinfection to keep everyone safe. We know many of you are spending a lot of extra family time at home right now, so for the next little while the Tracy’s Kids art therapists will post tutorials of art activities you can do at home! To kick off the series, we offer you “The Fast Flying Fairy and the Unicorn,” a shadow puppet show Tracy made at the clinic today. In a separate post, we will give you a picture tutorial so you can make your own shadow puppet theater. Tracy learned about shadow puppets from her friend Hobey Ford, master puppeteer. Enjoy!

Malcom and Tracy Discuss the Benefits of Art Therapy
For our Alumni Autumn feature, we wanted to share this clip from a conversation between Tracy and Malcolm -- a teacher in the Prince George’s County Public Schools who we met as a 10-year old. He's also an African drummer and DJ NuLife as a side hustle. Listen to Malcolm -- with the perspective of a teacher -- discuss how "Be a Friend" trading cards and "Pen Pals" kept him connected with classmates, helped his friends understand his illness and treatment, and facilitated his transition back into school. “I learned so much from Malcolm, especially how scary radiation treatments could be, because they are invisible, and you don’t feel the effects until later,” says Tracy Councill.

A "Medical Moment" from WBAL-TV 11 Baltimore
“It’s been really cool to develop the art therapy program here because we’ve shifted from these kids that don’t want to come in to these kids that don’t want to leave. We really do see their moods elevate and they get excited about what they’re doing.” -Danielle Eichner, Tracy's Kids Art Therapist Check out this recent piece from WBAL-TV 11 Baltimore to learn more about the program Danielle is leading at our clinic at LifeBridge Health's Children's Hospital at Sinai in Baltimore. “At school, I don’t really have a lot of people like me, and here it’s kind of like I have a whole bunch of people who are just like me.” Our patient at Children's National Medical Center says it best – our art therapists help foster a sense of community among patients, siblings, and families. In the art rooms, they know that they’re not alone. If you support our work from now until #GivingTuesday, your donation will be matched by the William Rosenberg Family Foundation! "He had more control of [his treatment] plan": Former Art Ther...
One of our former art therapists, Jenny, figured out through an art therapy session that a patient didn’t understand what a bone marrow transplant really was. Because Jenny had a close relationship with the patient’s medical team, she was able to alert them of her concerns so they could help the young boy better understand – and regain a sense of control over – his treatment plan. When you donate to Tracy’s Kids from now until #GivingTuesday, your donation will be matched! Give today: tinyurl.com/y7e8ooag

"Tracy's Kids is about freedom": Former Patient Ryan
"Tracy's Kids is about freedom." Ryan began working with our art therapists when he was 2 years old. As an alumnus of our original program at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, he's experienced first-hand how art therapy allows kids to be themselves even through the toughest circumstances. Support our work from now until #GivingTuesday and your donation will be matched: tinyurl.com/y7e8ooag

"They're not just their diagnosis": Art Therapist Kristen Ramsey
"I think one of the things we do best at Tracy's Kids is let kids explore and nurture and expand their identity beyond just being a patient. They're not just their diagnosis." Kristin Ramsey, an art therapist at our program at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, says it best. At Tracy's Kids, we let kids be kids - despite the emotional stress and trauma of cancer and its treatment. Consider helping us spread the art of healing this holiday season. When you donate to Tracy's Kids now through #GivingTuesday, the William Rosenberg Family Foundation will match your donation! Visit our website to donate today: www.tracyskids.org/how-you-can-help/
