We pursue a love for the Ukrainian language and heritage, as well as knowledge of Ukrainian history, culture, literature and geography through educational instruction, music appreciation, arts and crafts, and theater. Our community consists of students from Kindergarten through 11th grade, but also of adults that wish to learn Ukrainian, parents, friends, "Svitlychka" Preschool of the Ukrainian National Women's League of America, and Plast Scouts. Join us as well!

Mission: Головна роль та мета нашої школи — це виховувати свідомих і духовно багатих молодих людей українського походження, щоб вони стали повноцінними, гідними і гордими членами світової української та міжнародної громади. Our mission is to encourage young children of Ukrainian decent to become a spiritual awareness of their origins, so that they may become responsible, diligent and proud citizens of the Ukrainian global community - and of the world.

Dear Ukrainian School Families,

Summer is here! Help your kids strengthen their Ukrainian language skills this summer by using some or all of the resources outlined here. It doesn't have to be tortuous, long or boring, just a few minutes here and there will help them to at least retain what they learned over the past year, and may even help them learn and understand more!

Check out the website of the International Institute of Education, Culture and Diaspora Outreach (MIOK) at the Lviv Polytechnic University for some online activities For younger students, try: http://krok.miok.lviv.ua/uk/children/
For older students, there's:
http://krok.miok.lviv.ua/ua/students/
(though the best interactive activities are in the section of the website designed for younger kids).

For additional interactive learning, visit https://learning.ua and the українська мова section for some online interactive language exercises for ages preschool to 6th grade. Some activities are free; others require a paid subscription.

Finally, there's https://childdevelop.com.ua for various educational resources in Ukrainian. See the "Практичні завдання" section for worksheets and similar resources.

Stream Ukrainian Radio. Many Ukrainian pop stations offer live streams. To get the most benefit, try doing this before noon, as some stations switch entirely to music with no program hosts or news broadcasts in the evening and nighttime hours. Search online for "слухати українське радіо онлайн" or try any of the following:
Music:
Radio FM Halychyna: www.galychyna.fm
Radio Rocks: www.radioroks.ua
Radio Lux FM: https://lux.fm

Talk:
Hromadske: https://hromadskeradio.org

Watch Ukrainian TV shows and/or cartoons. The choices are almost endless. Type "Ukrainian Cartoons" or "Ukrainian Television" into the YouTube search field (if you don't have Ukrainian letters) and you'll find lots of options to choose from. Please preview anything you do find before showing it to your kids though, as all kinds of unexpected items can show up...

Use the DuoLingo app, available for Apple and Android for free (with ads) to help improve Ukrainian language.

Mango languages, available as a free online resource for library card holders in Arlington, Fairfax, Montgomery, Howard and possibly other local library systems offers a course in Ukrainian
