Created to motivate and assist Beeville Independent School District high school students in receiving post-secondary educations.

The Joe Barnhart Scholarship Program at A.C. Jones High School Created to motivate and assist Beeville Independent School District high school students in receiving post-secondary educations, the Joe Barnhart Scholarship Program has benefited 1,650 students since the program began in 1998. The program is unique in two ways: the collaboration between a public school and a private foundation - and the one-on-one relationship of each student with a volunteer mentor. Over 50 volunteers work with students to counsel, encourage and assist students individually in completing paperwork necessary for obtaining college admission and financial aid. Currently the program Director has acquired $20 million in financial aid for the students of Beeville. In addition, the Foundation provides financial assistance for some students. Since the program began, Beeville school officials have noted a rise in the number of students taking college entrance exams and a decline in the student dropout rate. In 2008 the Program was expanded to include high school freshmen by focusing on aptitude testing and exploration of students' interests and possibilities.

Congratulations to Seth Bazan! He is the recipient of the Rocco C. Caffarelli Scholarship. Seth plans to attend University of North Texas to major in Vocal Performance.

Rocco C. Caffarelli established this scholarship in order to provide educational opportunities for young men residing in Texas who plan to attend a Texas college and earn a bachelor’s degree.

Mr. Caffarelli and his family immigrated to the United States from Italy. He and his brothers began their lives in the United States by playing their violins at weddings. Later, he owned a grocery store, then opened a wholesale grocery business that served stores all over South Texas. He passed away in 1951.

Mr. Caffarelli had no formal schooling, but he loved to read, sometimes even leaving the dinner table to look up a word in the dictionary. He lived a simple life, never marrying or driving a car. He valued education above all else. His philosophy was, “You can’t do everything, so do one thing well.” He loved Texas and wanted to give something back to the state that had been so good to him and his family. Even though he did not live to see any of his scholarship winners attend school, this generous man has made it possible for over 1,600 young men to achieve their academic dreams.

The value of each scholarship is based on financial need, not to exceed $5,000 per academic year, for a maximum of four years, subject to renewal qualifications. You are eligible for this scholarship if you plan to attend a not-for-profit Texas college with the goal of earning a bachelor’s degree (not a vocational certificate).

Congratulations Seth!

Congratulations to Chase Portwood for being selected as a preliminary winner of the $20,000, 2020 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Area Go Texan Scholarship.

Currently, more than 2,300 students are on Rodeo scholarships, attending more than 80 different Texas colleges and universities. The value of these scholarships is more than $50 million.

AC Jones High School

Good afternoon ACJ/HPMA Parents and Students,

By now you've heard the news that schools will remain closed for the rest of the school year. This does not mean that school is over. It simply means students will not be returning to their classrooms or campuses this year. We will CONTINUE with online learning for the rest of the school year. This is especially important for Seniors!!

Students who are taking Algebra I, Biology, English I, English 2, and US History for the FIRST time this year will NOT have to take those EOCs as long as they pass the course this year. PLEASE make sure your students continue submitting their assignments so they can earn the credit.

Students who were using Odysseyware for original credit or credit recovery should continue working through the program. If your student needs help accessing the program, please email Serenna Mann at [email protected].

Information regarding graduation, band/athletic locker cleanout, etc... will be shared soon so stay tuned!

Please know that the faculty and staff at ACJ/HPMA are missing our students tremendously. We know this can be a difficult time for everyone. Parents and students who are needing some emotional support should reach out to our counselors (click on the link below).

As always, parents can email me directly at [email protected] with questions, comments, or concerns. We shall get through this together.

Respectfully,
Ms. Ewing
