Real food. Real good.
This am I made breakfast with New Potatoes + Baby Zucchini + Garlic slices. Soooo making this dish a staple item.

I used fresh Chile Pequins straight from my mother’s yard for the hot sauce. She has several bushes and they’re all in full production at this time of year. She has more than she can pick, so she cuts the entire little bush and hangs them in the garage until they can all be picked.

Usually we sit around the table, deep in conversation while harvesting. Makes for fun family time, especially on days like today. Gloomy, cold, and rainy. My favorite kind of meditative- work day.

ONE BILLION RISING expands its theme of REVOLUTION and SOLIDARITY this year! OBR has become a movement unto itself, taking activism out of the theater and into the streets, front and center.

As neoliberal policies and rapacious capitalism have become the engine of most governments, bringing profound consequences for the working class and marginalized sectors, it is more important than ever to be in solidarity with women on the frontlines. Suffering has reached new heights this year, and OBR is seeing a new, dynamic and radical militancy and vibrancy that is opposing and rising against such repression and oppression.

MN Trauma Project

#trauma #children

When talking with children about traumatic events, we need to consider several things, including:

•what kind of media coverage they can handle,
•thinking styles,
•communication styles,
•signs of stress,
•and developmentally-appropriate comfort strategies.

These guidelines are written for parents of children of all ages, assuring that children are given positive and supportive messages, sheltered from media which may overwhelm them, and given the opportunity to process traumatic events.

It's no secret I use organic ingredients as much as possible, especially where meat is concerned. I refrain from eating, using or wearing chemicals. Any increased cost for organic foods and products is countered by less medical care. I work to eat a whole foods based diet only (not processed or manufactured) much less than I have in the past. I believe this is the way our bodies are designed to eat, digest and process foods. I've based my thoughts a lifetime of personal
experience and information we all have access to. Also, I've come to understand that toxins, in the form of antibiotics, hormones, genetically modified feed, pesticides and chemicals are unbelievably destructive to our systemic health - physical, mental, and even emotional wellness. I believe the gut really is the 'second brain' that primarily, organic and whole foods and other naturally derived resources like prayer, mindfulness and meditation, yoga and healing energy work should be our primary go to daily medicine.
Frankly, I'm disgusted that we haven't set restrictions on the advertisement and use of these chemicals in our ingestible products. We need full disclosure and more research on their impact on our health. We did it with smoking, now we need it for food. ✔️

We must realize the value of therapy and lose the stigma attached to it in order to achieve mental wellness.
Resistance to therapy can be due to a combination of the stigma attached to it, fear of what it might reveal, or an under appreciation of its true value.
We like this article and this quote:

My dream is to walk around the world. A smallish backpack, all essentials neatly in place. A camera. A notebook. A traveling paint set. A hat. Good shoes. A nice pleated (green?) skirt for the occasional seaside hotel afternoon dance.

[05/14/17]   Nostalgia on The History of 'APRONS' :

I don't think our kids know what an apron is. The principle use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath because she only had a few. It was also because it was easier to wash aprons than dresses and aprons used less material. But along with that, it served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the oven.

It was wonderful for drying children's tears, and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears.

From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven.

When company came, those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids..

And when the weather was cold, Grandma wrapped it around her arms.

Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over the hot wood stove.

Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron.

From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables. After the peas had been shelled, it carried out the hulls.

In the fall, the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees.

When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds.

When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron, and the men folk knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner.

It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that 'old-time apron' that served so many purposes.

Send this to those who would know (and love) the story about Grandma's aprons.

Grandma used to set her hot baked apple pies on the window sill to cool. Her granddaughters set theirs on the window sill to thaw.

They would go crazy now trying to figure out how many germs were on that apron.

I don't think I ever caught anything from an apron - but love...

#paleomom #womenshealth #foodies #bodywork #oxalate #selfawareness

Oxalate is a type of organic acid salt that occurs naturally in many plant foods, and can also be produced endogenously (within our bodies) from the metabolism of vitamin C, glycine, glycolate, or hydroxyproline. A number of nutrient-dense, Paleo-friendly foods are high in oxalate, including a variety of leafy greens (beet greens, spinach, chard, endive, dandelion greens, kale, purslane, watercress, turnip greens, and collard greens!), most berries, most nuts, tea (made from real tea leaves), sweet potatoes, white potatoes, chives, parsley, broccoli, cabbage, okra, chocolate, beet root, cassava, carrots, and rhubarb. For the average American, three foods alone—spinach, potatoes, and nuts—make up 44% of our total oxalate intake!

Unfortunately, many people have been scared away from eating high-oxalate foods due to concerns about oxalate sensitivity. Although there’s no official medical definition for oxalate sensitivity, it typically refers to a tendency to develop kidney stones and/or muscle and joint pain as a result of eating high-oxalate foods. When the concentration of oxalates and calcium in the urine becomes too high to dilute (a condition called hyperoxaluria), calcium oxalate crystals can form in the kidneys and develop into stones (although there are different types of kidney stones, calcium-oxalate kidney stones are the most common, accounting for about 80% of cases!). When oxalate levels are too high in the blood (a condition called oxalosis), oxalate crystals can build up in the joints, muscles, and other tissues, leading to oxalate arthritis.

To be clear, hyperoxularia and oxalosis are legitimate conditions—there’s no controversy there. Some people (about one in three million) have genetic disorders that cause too much oxalate to be produced within the body, and other people have absorption disorders that cause too much oxalate to get absorbed from the gut (including Crohn’s disease, celiac disease, chronic pancreatitis, and side-effects from bariatric surgery). The question is whether high-oxalate foods are to blame for the symptoms that result, and whether cutting those foods out of our diet is really the best plan of action. And, the answers aren’t so simple... read more here:!

For anyone working with youth affected by Trauma, these are "must-reads"!

"The greatness of our lives is measured by how we live each day not by how we only extend ourselves on occasion.
Each day is a new opportunity for greatness as the dawn unfolds and our leaves spread outward to absorb.

Each day allows us a fresh beginning to grow more and it is only a matter of time that our wisdom extends to those who can use our guidance."
