The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers not to purchase or drink a product sold online as a medical treatment due to a recent rise in reported health issues. Since 2010, the FDA has warned consumers about the dangers of Miracle or Master Mineral Solution, Miracle Mineral Supplement, MMS, Chlorine Dioxide (CD) Protocol, Water Purification Solution (WPS) and other similar products.

Miracle Mineral Solution has not been approved by the FDA for any use, but these products continue to be promoted on social media as a remedy for treating autism, cancer, HIV/AIDS, hepatitis and flu, among other conditions. However, the solution, when mixed, develops into a dangerous bleach which has caused serious and potentially life-threatening side effects.

In 2015 ARI published a similar statement on MMS: https://www.autism.org/dangerous-miracle-mineral-solution/

Our last SibCamp of the summer kicked off today and its going to be a blast. What a fun group of campers! After meeting and deciding on group rules (where we discovered they all share a love of memes!) we then went on to make shaving cream art, write an advice column, play games, and more. Can't wait for tomorrow! #SibCamp #autismsiblings

Limited space and a scholarship still available for the last SibCamp of the summer August 5-9. Do you know a child who is 10-13 and has a brother or sister with autism? Let 'em know - SibCamp is a great time! (We know because we have campers who return each year...some even serve as junior counselors!).

Did you miss today's live Q&A featuring dietitian Vicki Kobliner answering questions about the relationship between nutrition and mood? It's not too late - watch the playback now.

There are 2 scholarships remaining for next week's SibCamp. If you know a sibling ages 10-13 in the Austin area please share this information. SibCamps are fun, rewarding, and meaningful (many campers return year after year). Message or email [email protected] for more details).

What to do when school says 'we don't do that here' {when you've asked for something on the IEP}

"There’s no such thing as 'we don’t do that here.' That may, in fact, be a factual statement for the school district. At this point in time, they are not offering that strategy or service to any child in your district.
Who cares? I in IEP-individual. If the child needs it and it’s appropriate, you do it. "

adayinourshoes.com You ask for something on your child's IEP and are told "We don't do that here." It happens often, and no, not a valid excuse. IEPs are based upon a child's need, so here's how to proceed.

Research confirms gut-brain connection in autism

"Up to 90% of people with autism suffer from gut issues, which can have a significant impact on daily life for them and their families. We know the brain and gut share many of the same neurons and now for the first time we've confirmed that they also share autism-related gene mutations ... It's a whole new way of thinking about it—for clinicians, families and researchers—and it broadens our horizons in the search for treatments to improve the quality of life for people with autism."

medicalxpress.com People with autism often suffer from gut problems, but nobody has known why. Researchers have now discovered the same gene mutations—found both in the brain and the gut—could be the cause.

They were in the US to learn more about programs and services for children with autism and related disorders and to learn more about ways to promote inclusion. It was so exciting to meet such dedicated professionals. Thank you to the organizers and wonderful interpreters who helped to make this happen.

A recent study investigated the relations among exposures to pesticides during pregnancy and early childhood and risk of autism spectrum disorder using population-based data from California and representing the largest epidemiologic study to date. The findings confirmed the hypothesis that pesticide exposure was related to autism spectrum disorder and comorbid intellectual disability and that level of pesticide exposure could relate to severity of autism.
