Martin Smith is from San Diego, California. He received his bachelor's and master's degree from UC Berkeley. At UC Berkeley, he played point guard for four years on the basketball team. Martin’s younger brother, Peter Smith, played basketball at the University of San Francisco (USF) and Concordia University in Irvine, CA; Martin’s father, Phil Smith, also played at USF and nine years in the NBA for the Golden State Warriors, San Diego Clippers and Seattle Supersonics. Martin is the epitome of a student athlete; he fused his passion and talent by starting his own business, Phil Smith Basketball Camps, and teaching at San Diego Community College after completing his master's degree. He also has international experience running his own basketball clinics in China and the Philippines. Currently, he is a third year doctoral student in Cultural Studies in Education at UT Austin. His research interests include race in education and race in sport. At UT Austin he teaches his own course titled "Sociocultural Influences on Learning".

“Grind like no one else today so you play like no one else in the future.” The time is NOW. Summer is the time to get better! Not in season.
- A camp is typically a 5 day summer or spring break event lasting from 9am- noon or 9am-4pm with a lunch break from noon-1pm. Entire teams or individuals can sign up for this.
- A clinic can occur at any time during the year. It is often a 1, 2 or 3 day event consisting of mostly skill building with a little scrimmaging. They can be done on a 3 day weekend or a Saturday and/or Sunday. Entire teams or individuals can sign up for this.
For example: Saturday & Sunday 9am-12pm, Saturday 10am-3pm, or Sunday 3-6pm, etc.
- Individual workouts are a one hour session with 1-4 players, getting high reps, and receiving critical but encouraging feedback on their game (shooting, ball-handling, finishes, etc.). These sessions are tailored to the needs and skill level of the group.
