The Pilates Method is an approach in mind & body integration that was created by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s. The fundamental principles focus on balance, concentration, control, centered awareness, fluid movements, and breath. Pilates enhances a core strength that increases flexibility, coordination and spacial awareness. The repertoire is performed as a mat class or on specialized equipment utilizing springs for resistance. Pilates will develop and enhance stamina, posture, alignment & core strength for elite performance to everyday activities.

Starting to run again, so working on training my leg stabilizers... Adductors, Glutes, Hamstring and Quads. Lunges with one foot on a moving surface adds in the extra work of strengthening the smaller muscles around the knees and ankles. Damn, I love Pilates!

Exactly two years ago to the day, I was on a plane headed to Nicaragua to complete my first Yoga Teacher Training intensive (i.e.: 19-days straight practicing and studying Yoga). Waking up at 5:20am every morning, thanks to the sounds of some extremely loud birds that liked to hang out in a tree just outside my bedroom window! and walking back to my condo around 6pm each night to eat dinner, then sleep and repeat again the following day. By day 12, we were all a little on edge for various reasons.
The teacher leading the training wasn't what I expected, the experience / training as a whole wasn't what I had hoped for, and one days towards the end of the training our entire group 14 people, sat in a room and argued for about 3 hours. Needless to say, not the image I had pictured in my head when I started on this journey.
side note: That is one of the things I LOVE so much about travel; it pushes you outside of your comfort zone, not everything goes as planned, and you are forced to adapt or be miserable.
The training ended 3-days early (which is an entirely different story) and I took off to Playa Majagual for 3-days, then to the island of Ometepe with three people from my training group, to go hike volcanoes on a tiny island.

Junior (on the left) was my amigo. His mom and grandmother cooked the food while he and his younger brother would take food and cervezas out to 4 tables in the sand. I ended up eating here 4 times while staying at Fincal...., about a 10min drive up a rocky, dusty road through the jungle. This is where my addiction to tostones began thanks to Junior's grandmother.
A lot of things have happened and changed in my life since stepping onto that plane, and I wouldn't change a thing. No matter how great, or how sh*tty, everything lead me here, to today, to the person I am. Still a work in progress, but I know myself so much better than I did two years ago and am grateful for the lessons learned and still learning (back to that whole work in progress idea).

The witness is your awareness of your own thoughts, feelings and emotions. Witnessing is like waking up in the morning and then looking in the mirror and noticing yourself - not judging or criticizing, just neutrality observing the quality of being awake. That process of stepping back takes you out of being submerged in your experiences and thoughts and sensory input, and into self-awareness.
Shoulders, glutes and core....we're working all the stabilizer muscles today! Pilates helped me fund strength in these muscle groups and has changed the way I workout out in all other areas, whether it's in Yoga, on the bike, or lifting weights at @onnitgymatx 💪🏽
Joy arises from within. And feeling loved is a fundamental human desire. Reminder to show love to yourself, and others. Make someone smile today and remind them they are loved. ❤️
